I took the plunge!!

Guess what I did today? I'm kind of in shock. . .

I secretly bought my DH a brand new extended cab pick-up truck for Christmas! It is parked in my sister's garage until Christmas morning, when they're going to drive it over here so I can surprise him.

OMGosh that was a lot of money!! I'm praying and keeping my fingers crossed that Michael doesn't check into the savings account balance. He will definitely notice that huge a deficit!

So I did this huge act of stupidity? Love? Kindness? Appreciation? Foolishness? Because he recently announced that he "always wanted" a truck to "haul things" (What things he's planning to haul, I'm not exactly sure. Makes me a tad nervous). When he told me this, he was on a roll searching for trucks. It's about all he talked about for a few days. Internet searches, checking them out in truck lots, etc. Then I burst his Happy Little Bubble and told him NO WAY was I driving a truck, he didn't need a truck--we have the minivan and his car, it's an extravagance, etc. I think I really disappointed him, and I've felt guilty ever since. He didn't give up though. I know he was still searching for trucks on the sly. But he couldn't buy one if I wasn't on board with it. That's just the nature of our marriage that we have to agree on big purchases like that (unless, of course, they are gifts for the other).

So I mulled it over for the past few weeks. He is a great dad and amazing husband and he works very hard and I love him with all my heart and like nothing better than to make him happy. There have been so many times in our relationship that he has gone out of his way to surprise me with loving things. So I solicited the help of my BIL, who took the day off to help me today (nice BIL! He's living vicariously through Michael, LOL!). I took the plunge and did it!! WHEW! I have never spent that much $$ by myself in one sitting in my life! I can't help but feel kind of weak-kneed. . . I just saw that money run through my fingers!!

So that is my Christmas present too. That's all I want, in all honesty: Just to see the look on his face Christmas morning when he finds his brand new truck in our driveway. He is going to drop dead of a heart attack! I can hardly wait!

Good idea, Valerie! Actually, I was thinking of putting the spare keys in a box, and just handing him the box and having him figure it out (it won't take him long, LOL!). But maybe I should hide the keys like in his jacket pocket, or tape them to the TV remote control (won't take him long to find them there). I'm not sure what to do yet.

Any ideas??

LOL Kate! That was my thing, too! Is it pretty?? Are the seats comfortable? Can I do my makeup easily in the visor mirror?? I could care less about anything else, except perhaps the gas mileage, but that's pretty much a given with these trucks. Not great :(

I got him a Ford F150 extended cab 4-door, with a short bed. I could not have done this without my BIL, who called him up on Monday afternoon, and faked that he needed "truck advice" for "a friend" and said "Hey man, I hear you've been checking out trucks, etc. etc. . . So if you were getting yourself one, you'd go with the blah, blah, blah?" Michael liked Toyotas, but then he decided if given a choice, he liked the Ford F150. We've pretty much driven Japanese cars for the past 10 years or so, so I hope Ford is reliable. My BIL said Ford makes great trucks, though. He was pretty jealous! LOL! And *such* a help to me, I owe him sooooo much, because I could not have pulled it off without Nick. He sat through the whole hassle with the dealer, and purchasing it and everything, just to make sure I didn't get "had." He thought I might get scammed on more if they knew I was paying cash, because they might figure we were rich or something and tell me I had to buy certain things that I didn't. And what do I know about trucks?? Very little (but more than I did last week! LOL!)

Oh, and it's a dark wine color, kind of metallic, with a tan base. It's very pretty, actually. Never thought I'd say that about a truck, but it is. And verrrrrry cushy and nice inside. And I thought the dark red was Christmassy. I don't think Michael would have liked bright red as much (he's not too flashy. His car is like a silver gray), but the dark wine red with the tan looked nice to me. I hope he likes it. I'm sure he will. I'm just so excited to give it to him!!

And here I thought that you got the EY package - lol.

I'm sure that he will love it. I don't think that I would be very good at keeping the secret until Monday :) We all can't wait to hear about it.
