And I missed you guys! :)
We got home late Saturday afternoon. We had a great time! It was very peaceful and relaxing. Ånd it was so beautiful!! We saw no one outside our family for the whole week except the people in a mountain general store, and Friday night we drove to the nearest town to go out to eat dinner. Our friends loaned us their cabin, and it has great views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and overlooks a cove into a huge lake, with a private dock. They have a rowboat, so we took the rowboat out every day. I tried rowing once, but my arms got tired in 2 minutes. I guess that's an indicator I need to start working out, LOL! I could use some upper body strength over here. But in the words of Liz: "I'd rather chew glass than exercise" (that cracked me up). So Michael did the rowing, and I must say that was fine by me, because I liked to sit back and watch his biceps and triceps move. Almost as good as the mountain vistas, LOL! ;) (Oh yes, Sofia's back in all her glory, with asparagus on her mind! GET READY GIRLS!!).
It was really beautiful & peaceful out on the lake. We also took walks in the woods. We saw deer, raccoon, bats and a fox, which was way too cool! Once we smelled skunk but we didn't find him (probably a good thing). Every night except Thursday Michael built a campfire and we roasted marshmallows & hot dogs. I don't do marshmallows and neither does Michael, but the kids loved them, even though most of them went all over them in a big gooey mess. Then after the kids were in bed, Michael & I got a blanket and cuddled up in it (it was chilly at night!) and talked and sat under the stars until the fire died out, so we got a little romantic time in, too. (Isn't it time for the kids to go to bed yet? LOL!)
There were only 2 drawbacks: The first was the bugs. Let me just say that THE BUGS GROW HUGE IN THE MOUNTAINS!! When we first got there, the front porch was covered with webs and spiders, because no one had been there in a few weeks. I wouldn't even go near the cabin! I'm TOTALLY arachnophobic!! I made Michael sweep off all the webs, and get rid of the spiders. He won't kill spiders (he says they have a right to live and are beneficial to the environment. Ugh!), so he put them in a cup and took them into the woods. (I know, it totally skeeves me out. If I ever divorce my husband it will be because he puts bugs in jars and refuses to kill them). Then I made him go on Spider Patrol in the house before I would go in. Better safe than sorry. Then there were the wasps. They freak me out almost as much as spiders. They would buzz around the cabin during the day. I was scared to open the doors. Thank goodness for screens, and that none got in. Michael has the nerve to tell me that they won't bother me if I don't bother them. That's a bunch of BS. I know wasps are very aggressive! And last but not least we can't forget the mosquitoes. We went through an entire bottle of bug repellent and still got bitten up (and Wendy, I forgot the Listerine!). I think warm bodies in that remote area meant Party Time for the mosquito population. One night one got into our bedroom. We were just falling asleep when we heard that annoying high-pitched buzzing. Fortunately (for him!!) that is one insect Michael will kill, so he turned on the light and chased it down and smashed it, and it was huge and full of blood. How disgusting! The mosquitoes were a major drag.
Then on Thursday evening we had a bad mountain storm. We could hear the thunder forever before it got to us. And when it did, it was *so* loud, echoing off the mountains, it kind of freaked me out. We were the only house in the area, too. But the worst part was--we lost power! I was pretty sure that was it--no more power. Live like the pioneers did. I mean--who goes out to the boonies right away and fixes the power lines? I was sure it would be weeks. But it actually came back on after a few hours. In the meantime, our friends had left a kerosene lantern on the porch, so Michael lit that. The kids were kind of freaked out by the storm, and the lights going out, and we had to try and calm them down and get them to go to sleep anyway, which wasn't easy.
But all in all we had such a good and relaxing time. It was so nice to get away from everyone and everything, and see such beautiful nature. We even heard owls at night! Way cool!
I hope everyone had a great week. Did you miss me? LOL! :)
Sofia

It sounds like you had a great time aside from the bugs LOL
glad you're back!
I would have been freaked if saw big spiders or spiders at all. Hate the darn things.
I wish we could have went with you, sounded so nice just hearing you describe your time there. Lucky dawg :)
Hey Lady....Welcome Home....I missed ya!
Welcome back Sofia!
I'm so glad you had a nice time.
I hear ya about the spiders... when DH and I went up north last week there was one in the living room.
Sofia! Glad you are home!! I'm sorry to hear that they have Super Gigantic spiders in the mountains. That would bum me out, too! Also, you should just keep the Listerine with your bug spray, and then you won't forget it!! It sounds like you had a wonderful time, despite the storm late in the week. I'm glad you are home - I missed you, you sassy girl!!
Hugs,
Wendy
Sounds like you had a great time. I'm totally with you on the bugs. Eeeew.
While you were in a cabin in the woods in a thunderstorm, we were in a tiny trailer in a trailer park in a thunderstorm. It was so loud on that metal roof and I just couldn't sleep. I was sure the kids were gonna wake up in a panic. We went to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History on Friday. It's a very nice museum, dinosaurs, planetarium, live animals, etc. The kids loved it.
Dh kept talking about the CMNH and how nice it was and how the kids were going to love it, which made me a little jealous, thinking about how he'd probably been there with some chick in college. As soon as we walked in I remembered. He was there with ME!! I felt like such an idiot. We went to Cleveland right before we got married but all I was remembering was the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Totally forgot the CMNH. I felt so guilty for forgetting. He hadn't come right out and said "you went with me, don't you remember?!" because he was afraid he was wrong and it would upset me. I'm a goober.
Anyway, very glad you're back. The board just isn't the same w/o you.
