I'm BACK!!

I've really missed all you gals!! We had a fantastic vacation!! We rented a cottage at the beach (on an inland lake). We do this every year with my IL's. We have a total of 3 cottages, one for each family. We did lots of swimming, fishing and boating. Oldest dd Katie just turned into a wonderful little fisherperson!! She even went out early Friday a.m. with her Uncle and she got an 18" Northern!! She was soooooo excited. It was the biggest fish she has ever caught. Molly got a pretty nasty skeeter bite (you know she is terribly allergic) and she is still suffering today - it was 3 days ago. They are quite painful to her because she swells up so terribly. They turn hot and red and get enormous (she was almost hospitalized for one 2 years ago). Other than that, I think she had a spider in her bed the first couple of days, because she was covered with spider bites a couple of mornings. Poor thing - critters just lover her! LOL! We even made time for mom's day out - I went shopping with my MIL and SIL and we went out to lunch. We made it to a Waterski show on Wed. evening - that was a blast. It is amazing what these young kids can do!! So all in all, a great week. Very exhausted tho. Got home about 2p.m. today, and so far we have everything unpacked and I've done 5 loads of laundry. DH washed and vacuumed the car already, too. Now we are going to chill and watch the race (I'm taking a shower first). Can't wait to sleep in my OWN bed tonight! LOL!

I'll catch up with y'all in the next couple of days!! We have lots of yardwork to do and I need to grocery shop before Tuesday when my parents come over.

Hugs,
Wendy

Welcome back, Wendy! I missed you! I'm so glad you had such a great time. You do like us--vacation with your ILs.

My oldest Matthew is allergic to bug bites also and swells up horribly, but just around the bite area. Mosquito bites on him get HUGE and hot and red and hurt him. DH gives him benadryl, and puts calamine lotion on it, and if it's really bad, cortisone cream. But I'm sure you have your own remedies.

I'm so glad to see you around again :)

Sofia, Molly's reaction to mosquito bites can be quite scary sometimes. She got bit on the calf once, and by the next morning, her entire leg, from her knee down to her ankle, was swollen, red and hot. That is the one that almost put her in Children's Hosp. We were supposed to leave for our annual vacation (the same one we just came back from) and the dr. told me we weren't going anywhere, until HE said we could. She also had one by her eye, and it totally swelled it closed and turned it PURPLE! If the mosquitoes are out, they head directly for her. Anyway, someone told us that when she gets bit, put Listerine (the regular, gold colored mouthwash) on it. Well, Tuesday was the first chance I had to see if it works - you have to do almost immediately (sometimes that is impossible). She got one and I put it on her right away (Just used a cottonball). Within an hour, it was totally gone. I was totally shocked! I keep in close contact with her dr. about her bites, and I had asked him what he thought of this crazy idea, and he said - well, it certainly can't hurt her. So, I tried it. I highly recommend it!! I have also been instructed to give her Zyrtec, instead of Benadryl, since I've tried Benadryl many times and it DOESN'T work for her. Older dd is on Zyrtec daily for her allergies and he said I could just use Katie's for the times she gets bit, instead of giving her own prescription. The other thing I do for the itch, is give her an oatmeal bath. I just fill up the tub with plain water, and sprinkle in oatmeal. It really helps with the itchiness, especially right before bed. I keep her TOTALLY covered, from head to toe, if she is outside with the skeeters. However, they still find her, and usually attack her hands, which are about the only thing exposed!! It is totally pathetic! Anyhow, enough of my babbling. I just thought I'd let you know about some of the other tricks I try. I know your dh is a doctor, but some of the "home remedies" work pretty well, too.

Hugs,
Wendy

Wow! We'll have to try the Listerine! That's amazing. You say the gold-colored kind? We have the blue kind. It's funny, because the mosquitoes seem to like Matthew extra specially too, poor little guy. He's never had as bad a reaction as Molly, but his bites can get pretty big and gruesome. We've actually never taken him to the doctor's for it, I've just let DH deal with it.

My DH loves home remedies, are you kidding? Now when I tell him about the Listerine, he'll research it for an hour, breaking down all the chemical components and trying to figure out just why it would work, I kid you not. Inside of him where no one can see lies a serious Nerd Gene, LOL!

Thanks for the tips!!

Sofia

Yes, it has to be gold stuff (for some reason, I'm unsure of....). Also, it seems to work best when you put it on RIGHT away. I tried it when we were on vacation, and it didn't do anything, because the bite had been there for a good 1/2 hour before I got to it. The one the other day worked because Molly showed it to me right after the skeeter flew away - so I don't know if that is the key or not, but I was truly amazed.

Anyhow, let me know what your dh finds out...I'd be interested to know.

we sure missed you around here last week Wendy! I feel like I've been on vacation this week myself since Kyle's brother & SIL are here from out of state.
I'm glad you had a great time, and I hope Molly is feeling better by now.
