i'm such a spendthrift!

you guys are totally gonna laugh at me, but i'm having serious buyer's remorse here. no, it's not over a new car or even living room furniture, it's over shampoo. i bought 5.99$ shampoo today!! and conditioner! 12 dollars on shampoo and conditioner?!? EEEKKK! i've never bought anything more expensive than Pantene which is a huge splurge at 3.99 for the 2-in-one. i usually stick with the 99 cent suave or VO5, i've NEVER spent 12$ dollars on hair products, lol.
i have a reason though!! since the flooding here they've waaay over-chlorinated the water and it's doing horrible things to my naturally brownish-red hair. it's turned it into this dried out mop of red straw, and i hate it! it's too fried to dye and i don't have the cash to get it fixed at a salon, hence the splurge.
i still wouldn't have done it except dh made me, lol. we were in walmart today and i had 50$ of spending money that of course got completely eaten up by pullups, shavers, deoderant, and the stinking spiderman costume for tristan. i looked at the shampoo but didn't get it as i didn't think i had enough money. so as we go to ring up dh looks in the cart and says "i gave you 50$ to spend on YOURSELF, why is everything in here for me or the kids? go get something for you!" so i ran back and got it =D
i know i probably sound really cheap, but i'm scottish, what can i say? there's some stuff i just don't spend money on, and my hair happens to be one of them! if there's a generic to be found i buy it, it's just how i was raised and how i am.
it's really good shampoo (john freida brilliant brunette) and my hair feels like hair again for the first time in a while so i think i'm gonna keep it, just need ya'll to laugh at me a little so i'll stop feeling guilty!
does anyone else have trouble spending money on themselves? when i have spending money i always end up spending it on the family instead of me, i always feel guilty for money spent on just me. except for clothes, i can buy clothes any day of the week and never feel guilty, guess i have selective guilt! lol.

I am so very much the same. I can't spend money on me. It's either tucked away, or spent on dd. My dh is always trying to get me to spend $$ on clothes for me, or getting my hair done, ect. I just can't justify it!!! I can go to a salon and spend $125.00 easily, on JUST a hair color & cut. That dosen't include the products! I can't do it.
This Saturday that just passed, was my best friends wedding, and I was the matron of honor, I felt I "splurged" by getting my eyebrows waxed...(hasn't been done in 2 years, I do pluck the odd time though!)
I agree with the cheap shampoo and conditioner. It's what I buy. Now my dh has started getting me the big 1 litre jugs of salon shampoo, and one of conditioner for Christmas's and such, because he knows I will NEVER spend money on that. Jeeze, another reson why I love him!!!
Guilty as charged! lol Like you and Lesely I just can not spend money on myself! My Dh is really generous with me. He LIKES me to spend money on myself and I just cant! I don't know how many times he has given me money to get my hair done at one of the nicer salons, and I will instead go spend it on the kids or Dh. Only one time did I actually follow thru with it.
I feel horribly guilty just buying myself some 1.99 lip gloss!

mombeetx, what is wrong with us? my dh could care less what i spend on myself as well, I'M the one who's anal about it. we should really start a 'cheapskates annonymous' support group and learn how to waste at least 20 bucks a paycheck on ourselves. dammit, we deserve it!! my kids both have waaaaay too much crap, they've got toys coming out their ears and enough clothes to outfit a small european country, but when i get mad money i always spend it on them. what is wrong with us?!?
istlmom, i WISH my husband's gay streak came out as a passion for shopping, unfortunately it manifests itself as a secret affection for baths! i wish it was something *I* benefited from, lol.
Roflmao! Clarity, people would pay good money to see your Dh do that! LOL Hey there is a home business idea for us...:)
