The checklist is pretty good, but I have to say that I do object to a couple of items listed. The checklist tells you to inform your child to approach a police officer or uniformed guard/officer if in trouble.
I have read elsewhere that it is MUCH better to tell your child to "ask a nice lady" if in trouble. The percentage of women who harm children is significantly lower than of men who harm them. Also, many women, especially those with children, have a maternal thing going on and will go the extra mile to see that a child's problem is resolved, rather than just turning that child over to the mall security guard.
Also, interviews with convicted pedophiles shows that over 50% of them held positions as security guards in uniform at one time or anther. Sometimes, the person in uniform may be the LAST person you'd want your child going to for help.
There's a really great book available at most libraries called Protecting the Gift by Gavin de Becker that has some additional recommendations that we have found to be useful - Suzanne
