Lice :(

I think my DS, age 5, may have head lice, though I am not sure. A note came home last Friday from his preschool, informing parents that a case of lice was found in his class. Ugh. I have checked his head several times since learning about this, but I haven't seen anything unusal. Then this morning I noticed him scratching the crown of his head. I looked at the area he was scratching, and noticed little white things that were not dry skin (they were stuck onto the hair shaft, about 1/4" away from the skin) I have never seen lice/eggs, but I am assuming that this is what it is. I am about to research this over the web, but I thought I would also check with this board to see if any of you have experience with this. I would like to know: How do you know for sure it is head lice? How is this treated? I know that there are special shampoos out there. Do they work? Are they safe? How do you remove the little eggs? Does the lice shampoo wash them away? And how do I deal with bedding, carpet, and other family members? Sorry, that got a little long...any advice will be *so* much appreciated!

Sounds like it to me. The lice are cinda tear drop shape too. I was told to use like mayo and then cove the head with plastic wrap and leave it for a whild like an hour it will kill them they wont get any air.(is what I was told) or you can do the shampoo. you will need to get a lice comb to get them all out though. It is a combe with really close together teeth.

Sounds like lice to me as well.
Good luck getting rid of it. There is plenty to buy to help.
If you are not sure what to do, ask your ped.

OMG... one of my brothers brought home lice one time, and it was a nightmare... I feel for ya!

use the shampoo on everyone in the house at the same time, and while that is going on you'll need to change & wash the bedding (blankets included), vacuum the backs of the sofa & chairs & the floors really well, and throw the pillows in the dryer (the heat will kill the eggs). Also, be sure to clean any brushes, combs, hair ribbons, hats, jackets, anything else that could have possibly come in contact with hair.

GL! it's NOT a fun process...

Thanks, ladies, for your replies/advice. I really appreciate you taking the time to post...yes, it is lice. My neighbor, who is a nurse, checked him out. She said that it is sometimes *very* difficult to get rid of. **Sigh** This just gives me the willies...

Thanks again,
