Looking for a new cell phone provider
| Thu, 07-07-2005 - 6:11pm |
Anyone have any good recommendations? We currently have Verizon and we get cut off ALOT! We can only use our cell phone in ONE spot in our house. Even on a beautiful day like today (no clouds, no wind, no rain), we have trouble. Looking for help here. Thanks alot.
Wendy

Wendy, I am sorry I have no advice to give. We are probably the only people in the world that do not have cell phones..lol. I just wanted to bump this up so maybe someone can help you.

I use to have Sprint, and I never had a problem with service. my dh uses Nextel and he loves them, too.
Hey Wendy... my DH works for Sprint. Personally I love Sprint btw... we've never had any problems with it.
We had Cingular, then T-Mobile, then back to Cingular and finally ended up with Sprint. We live South Texas and couldn't get service with T-Mobile in the Hill Country, which we go to quit a bit, but our old Cingular phone still got service a little bit away at the hunting lease so we went back to Cingular but still didn't get service where we go the majority of the time in the Hill Country unless we drove a whopping 20 minutes down the road where it magically came on!! So we've gone to Sprint and have not had single problem with the service either on the road, in the Hill Country, or from inside the house!!
Good luck finding what suits you best!

Wendy,
I am Desiree's Dear Husband, and I wanted to see if I could help you out. I don't normally post on this board since it's my wife's thing, but she thought I may be able to offer you some tips and save you some frustration along with $$$.
I've worked with Sprint Technical Support for 4yrs and the issue you're having with Signal fading/Drop calls or no signal at all can be common issues with any wireless provider. I am sure if everyone posted their opinions about their wireless company, you would hear good things about everyone. Let me share with you a couple of secrets that have help thousands of customers of mine over the last 4yrs.
The primary reason calls drop is because the phone has moved out of range of the tower. If you had good service at one time, then that tells me you have a tower near by. So why does your service start getting worse and worse?
What happens is this:
When you first turn your phone on, it builds a connection to your local tower. That connection is good at first, but after a few days or weeks as you travel in/out of buildings like Wal-Mart etc.. that connection can get severed. The tower always reconnects to the phone after you come out of that dead spot, but it's not the best connection. When you turn your phone off/on, your phone will reconnect to the tower and refresh... It's like re-booting your computer to fix problems. You can also take your battery off periodically to roboot the phone.
If those things don't improve your service immediatly, then the problem is going to be a couple of things.
1- Your location in regard to how close you are to your local tower,
2- Problem with your handset (phone). How can you determine that one? Generally if it's tower related the problem will go away when you move into the range of another tower, so if it doesn't than this issue could be your phone. I've spoken to people who have traveled 20miles having the same problem all over the place. That would be an example of a phone issue.
Finally, if your phone starts working fine but just not in one specific location (ie..in doors), then your service provider just doesn't have a tower close enough to you, to get the signal inside....
One thing that I've noticed being a tech is that I go with the product I receive the less complaints on. That's why me and my whole family have purchased Sanyo. We have been very pleased with that choice for years now. So I highly recommend the Sanyo product if you go with Sprint or who ever.
So to recap:
1- Take your battery off and put it back on 1min later every now and then, or if problems arise out of the normal
2- Turn your phone on/off more frequently ( which can cure issues where your message indicator comes up hours later or if people say they called you but the call went to your voice mail and never rang to your phone)
3- Test to see if you notice an immediate improvement in service in area's you are currently having problems.
I hope the ideas above will help you.
Have a nice day, and get back with my DW Desiree if you have any questions, and I will be more than happy to help.
Desiree's Proud DH & Father of 3 Cute Kids, that sometimes drive me crazy!!!! :)
Wow! You and Desiree have both been so helpful! I appreciate you taking some time to explain some things to me. I always turn my phone off at the end of the day, so everyday when I turn it on, it is refreshed. Also, I have never gotten good service on my phone since we moved into this house (and while it was being built). We are wondering if it is because of how our house was built - it is poured concrete construction, all the way up to the roof trusses (unusual, but very efficient!!). Could that be part of my problem? I literally have to stand in the middle window of my den to make a call and if I move in the slightest, I lose the call. I have almost zero bars when I stand in the middle of my house. However, when I go up to northern Wisconsin on vacation, I get really good reception, even in the middle of the woods! I don't know if they have a tower close by or not, but we are in the middle of nowhere up there, so my dh and I just don't understand it. We are seriously considering new service in September and really appreciate the input you have given us.

Hey Wendy, this is Kyle or as y'all say on this board dh of momof3littlepunkins. It sounds like you live in a bank vault (figuratively speaking) and that is why you are having those signal issues. If you have signal issues outside your house then you would definitely need another provider because
