hey guys. I just read your coffee break posting about sibling going on fieldtrips. While I agree 100% that sibling should not go on class fieldtrips, I wanted to share what I do so that I am able to go or volunteer for school parties. I have no family in our area to help with watching ds but I do have awesome friends! Most of my friends are in the some boat as I am. We watch each others children for events like this and other events. I have watched friend's kids for home closing, house shopping, moving, OB appt, Field trips,...and they do the same for me(except OB appointments..lol). Right now I have a list of about 10 good friends that I could call on to help with watching ds if i needed(They are all sahm for the most part). Of course, these are moms that I know well, love and trust plus ds knows them, their kids and their homes. I am aware that this would not work for everyone but it does for me and I thought I would share it with you.

You would be surprised at how many other parents are in the same situation as you!

I would love to volunteer more at school, but we just moved to this community a couple years ago and most of it is double income, so I have yet to make any real close friends to trade sitting with. When the twins go to kindergarten in the fall I'll be able to do a lot more. Dd actually had a fieldtrip TODAY, so I found it interesting that this came up on the board. She went to a state park that includes a large farm. They asked for volunteers, no sibs allowed, of course. I would have loved to have gone. Usually my ILs sit for me, but they live 45 minutes away and I needed them on monday so I could go to my appointments and then I'll need them again on Friday for another school event. Anyway, I understand the reasoning for not wanting sibs there, obviously, but it's still dissappointing.

I wish this was something I could do, but I dont have very many friends and the ones I do, do not want to watch a 2 year old when most of their kids are in school. A lot of my friends also work.
I am able to bring him on filedtrips, just not into the school, for the parties or volunteering days.

THanks for the idea though.
