moment of career envy

Out of sheer boredom last night, I did a Google search on a former colleague (about two years younger than me) and I found out that he's doing quite well for himself, working in corporate communications for a large company in the DC metro area. To give you a little background - I had worked in my field for a total of seven years. I worked for one company for three years, but couldn't take the horrible management and hellish office politics, so I left to go to another company (on good terms). Worked at the second company for 14 months, then was laid off. Decided to hang my own shingle and work for myself from home- have been doing OK since, and it's worked out nicely since I get to be home with our baby boy.

Having said that.....I still couldn't help myself but to have a sense of slight envy at this former colleague, and think what could have been....but of course, that wouldn't resolve any issue of paying for daycare. I realize that I am fortunate to have my situation, and when I snap back to reality I know I have the best of both worlds.

OK...thanks for letting me get this off my chest!

Jen, you do not have to feel guilty for having those thoughts. I am sure most of us here have had them. You do not know how jealous
