Money Savers

After the birth of DS my sensitive skin has gone into overdrive. The things I used to buy and save $$ on like detergents, shampoo, body washes, etc... now are wicked expensive because of the brands I require. DH sacrificed a lot for me to be a SAHM, and the money is a little tight right now.
My question is this: What is the best way/thing you have found to save money? I used to clip coupons, but I found I actually spent more because I bought things I did not need!!!lol Any suggestions?
TIA, ladies!

Great thread!
I do a few things to save money. I buy two Sunday papers every week and clip coupons. That way, I can stock up on things we use the most with a coupon. I am really big on stockpiling when things are on sale: especially toilet paper, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, etc. Target has some great deals every once in awhile. The biggest thing that saves me money is to plan my meals. I plan out two weeks worth of meals (with a few convenience foods, but mostly from scratch stuff) and make my grocery list according to the layout of the store and I mark if I'm using a coupon on that item. That way I only go to the grocery store every payday rather than every week and buying a bunch of impulse stuff that doesn't make an actual meal! I do usually have to go in between for produce, bread, and milk...but that's all! Make a list and stick to it!
I also call my cable company every three months or so to see if they have any new deals on cable and internet packages.
I don't know what sensitive skin products you use: but the Wal-Mart and Target brands of Cetaphil products are just as gentle as name brand. Purex Free and Clear is as good as All Free and Clear and is a bit cheaper. Using store brands saves us a lot of money, too. Some stuff it doesn't really matter; but some things I just HAVE to use name brand.
Remember: just b/c it's on sale or you have a coupon DOESN'T MAKE IT A GOOD DEAL! I am so bad about this one, and it's taken me awhile to figure out that just b/c it's cheap...doesn't mean I need it!

Good point...menu planning is a HUGE money saver...and a sanity saver too!
Do you have an Aldi in your area?
I buy alot of generic stuff.
Thanks ladies, for your suggestions. I will indeed give the Target brands a shot.
It's funny though, that you all mentioned Purex. I have used Cheer all my life, with Bounce drier sheets.
Target had a special on the Purex free. I thought, how bad could it be? It has no dye or fragrance. Well that's just the detergent that sent me into overdrive. I'm looking forward to the change of season because I know that all my fall clothes were washed in Cheer. I'll wash all my spring and summer things so
I try to buy clothes for my kids on clearance.

OMGoodness! This thread is ANCIENT! LMBO
Thanks for the response! My DSD has eczema, and the two of us (although I don't have it) are always looking for good lotions. I'll keep my eyes open for that. It will be worth the cost, for sure...
