My part time job...is IT worth it??

Ok, so I got a job part time two weeks ago at a dept store. I was assigned to the jewelry dept. I was very overwhelmed at the information I had to learn believe it or not!
I was never any good with keys either and you have to learn which zillions of keys open which cases, and there are TONS of cases! Then there is closing the registers at the end of the night, counting the watches in the case, etc. I come home my legs are throbbing and my back is aching. I feel like I have missed out on time with my family and I feel mentally and physically exausted.

I had two customers yesterday who vere really nasty for no reason and I felt like screaming I dont need this job screw you and I definately dont need to hear your crap!
I really thought this was what I wanted but I dont think the pain and aggravation are worth it.

The reason why I wanted this job was to make extra money for the holidays, but Im only making 7 dollars and change an hour!!
Dh tells me to quit but then I will have no spending money. I think ideally I would like to find something clerical, pt and at night.
Suggestions, ideas?

THANK YOU! :)

I agree with Michele!

Retail stinks! Big time, especially around Christmas... everyone is nastier.

I would start looking for another job, maybe a clothing store you shop at to get discounts or a childrens store. If I went to work, I would go right to gymboree, lol :)

I hate selling things! I don't even like selling Avon or Tupperware.

Right now I am doing daycare in my home. The plus is I get to look after my own youngest child (she is 3, the others are in school all day), I provide my youngest with playmates, I earn extra money and i choose who I want to work for! I am my own boss. I can choose when I am open and closed. As well, I am a great mom and child care- provider!(I like spending time with kids).

I get positive feedback from the customers- generally lots of cuddles and kisses and gee Tina, I love coming to your house.

In my program we do crafts, baking, singing, reading, outings to library and park. Things I would be doing for my own child.- the reason I wanted to stay at home.

I am a Registered Social Service Worker and I have a diploma in Addictions Studies.I also have been trained in chaplaincy and other types of counselling. I love working with people- esp. kids. I could be working, and have daycare for my kids. (been there, done that). But I think i do a better job and am able to offer my kind of care to the parents of my daycare kids.

Some people undervalue this type of work- but I am doing what I enjoy, getting to be at home, and I am getting paid too!

It is not for everyone, but it is worth consideration

Tina
