Need a friend

I'm new to the board... I've been a stay-at-home mom since January when we moved here from North Carolina. I've made a few friends, but it seems like everyone is so busy we don't have time to get together. One good friend just had another baby (one 3-year-old too) and she totally blows me off every time I try to talk to her. The new baby is one month old. She also works from home part-time so I know she's busy. I've tried to be understanding and offered to help with the baby, drop off the older child at school, etc. I'm reaching out to other neighbors but most of their kids are either too old or too young for my girls to play with. I'm also feeling like my modest upbringing is a challenge, because most of our neighbors are fairly wealthy (at least to me) and I can't keep up with their tastes (trips to Europe, private schools, congressional friends). Feeling blue... any suggestions?

Welcome to the board. I am sorry you are feeling this way. It is funny because I used to get so upset because the women I had the most in common with, child rearing styles ect all were
Boy can I relate! It seems like there is never a physical, in real life mom for me to hang out with. I have foudn a few new friends here in Maryland. We're military and move ALL of the time. My daughter is 20 months and has had 3 homes. My son is eight and has had about eight himself. I try to be upbeat about moving because truly I could meet the friend of a life time but it does take it's toll on me. I'm not as supportive as
Thanks so much for the supportive advice. It does help to know I'm not alone :-) The suggestion about yard sales is a terrific idea. Since my fist posting, I've volunteered at my girls' school for 2 mornings a week and I hope to meet some "real" moms that way. I will keep you posted...
thanks again!! R.
How old are your girls? MOPS has been mentioned, but I thought I would explain it a little more. MOPS is for moms who have at least one child between newborn and kindergarten. To find group in your area go to www.mops.org. At MOPS meetings we hear a speaker on a mom or kid topic, do a craft and talk to lots of other moms in the same place in life we are in. Also, kids come with and are taken care of while you enjoy your time.

Thank you so much for the suggestion. I have heard of MOPS, my sister-in-law is a member in Dallas. I will look into it more. My girls JUST turned 4 on Wednesday... can't believe it. DH and I want to have one more but we're afraid of more twins! --No more roon in house for TWO more! Twins, etc. really run in my family (I'm a twin and my twin sister had twins too). We will see what happens. Otherwise, I want to go back to school to become a teacher.
thanks again,
R.
