Need lunch ideas...

we are going to do bag lunches this year cause he realy did not like the hot lunches last year. The school does not have a caftera so the lunches get brought into them and they are realy small and not good at all. Cinda gross really I got a chance to see them over the summer when we went for a free lunch at a church this summer they were the same lunches he had at school. I would not eat them and they were only like 3 chicken strips, about 3T at the most of beans(they were dryed out), juice or very small plum and milk. So anyways I was trying to find different lunch ideas for a 10 year old to take to school.
Thank You
Kerri

My ds usually takes a turkey sandwich, but we have done crackers with cheese and pepperoni slices. Of course, he also has chips, fruit, dessert, drink, etc. I try to have at least 2 sides. I also try to get creative with his desserts. He's finishing off a cake a made where I split it down the middle and put icing in it (think ding dongs). That way the siran wrap that covers it doesn't take all the icing off when he opens it up. It keeps it a lot neater too.
Today I bought thermos from Wal-Mart that is so neat. It's about 3" tall with a spoon in the lid. I'll send soups and some warm things this Winter along with his sandwiches.
I'm constantly looking for new ideas though. I know sandwiches get old.

I've tried a few different things, but my main conclusion is to not send too much snack food. I've tried sending healthy stuff with a few treats, but I find that the junk gets eaten and the rest doesn't. Items such as chips and sweets are out of the question. But she never asks for them anyway because even at the age of 6, she's very aware of healthy eating habits.
Anyway, DD's favourite sandwich is devon and tomato sauce. (Blech!) Translating this to U.S. food is tricky. Devon is a kind of mild, manufactured meat and tomato sauce is like ketsup. Of course, use wholemeal bread. DD loves peanut butter, but we don't send peanut butter because there is a child with a peanut allergy at school. As a sweeter alternative, I sometimes make a sandwich from fruit loaf. Of course, ham or chicken with lettuce make a nice sandwich. Also try: creamed cheese with sultanas, grated carrot and some yummy seeds from the health food store.
Corn cakes with a side of creamed cheese is good for when we've run out of bread.
For a sweet treat, she will have a *small* serve or biscuits or a *small* cup cake.
There will also be fruit and/or veg. Try *small* apples, carrot sticks, dried fruit, strawberries, rockmelon, banana, kiwi fruit, mandarin. Lots of stone fruit in summer. Yum! The we also buy little tubs of fruit such as pureed apple or diced apricot as a stand-by for when we've run out of real fruit.
Sometimes I give some dairy. If you freeze yoghurt tubs, they won't go off and make a nice slushy for morning tea. Cheese and biscuit snack combos are good too.
As far as packing goes, I have a thermal bag to put it all in. Add a small ice brick in summer. Tupperware makes a great compartmentalised lunch box too.
I still remember my mom making me sandwiches and since I didn't like the crust she would use a cookie cutter and use that to take off the crust! So i would end up with heart or animal shaped sandwiches!
And other lil things maybe a granola bar and a piece of
