...kids come to this kind of party?

I have decided on the theme for Matt's 8th b-day party which is in April. He really wants to have a Fear Factor party but I am undecided. I hope parents would think it was all in good fun but I want to make sure what you all think.

I was going to order real chocolate covered instects from a chocolate shop. I thought this would be funny for the first "Challenge", but being an animal lover myself I am afraid someone may be offended..would you be?

For the second challenge the children will have to stick their hand in a bowl of worms that I will buy from the bait shop, they will have to get a key out and unlock some handcuffs to complete the challenge.

Next I was going to put grasshoppers(you can get a couple of dozen from the pet shops for 12.00 dollars) and they kids will have to stick in their hands in an aquarium and retrieve plastic spiders to complete the challenge.

The last challenge will be a rented rock climbing wall from a party supply place. There will be a Fear Factor winner based on the time they complete their challenge and all the kids will receive certificates that say Fear is not a Factor for__________________. I survived Matt's b-day party of 2005.

So what do you think? Would you let your kids come? Would you think it was to gross? Would you serve the food before or after the party?

Thanks!

I think she asked for advice and I gave it! I plan parties as a side job and Parents can be very difficult. A party like this can offend a great deal of people. IF this parent were to go ahead with this party she had better inform the parents of all the details. Otherwise she could find herself in a lot of trouble.

I really don't see doctors in the future telling us to eat our daily allowance of bugs because they are healthy either.

Thank you everybody for your advice.

These are all children that get along very well with each-other and the friends that Matt will have are all friends he sees at least twice a week...and then there are of course lots of cousins.

I will have to make sure that no-one feels bad if they do not want to complete a challenge...maybe I will make them a helper to help include them. I know all of these kids really well though and think they would all be up for it. I will make sure I call each parent and explain to them all what will happen so that they know up front and can decide for themselves.

Thanks again :)

I love the party ideal! I think its great! I don't think its bad that you are having chocolate covered grasshoppers. Its not like the grasshoppers are alive. They are sold to be eaten. They won't harm ya kids. And I have heard a few Drs on tv talking about how much healther incests could be than a big fat cow...LOL! I don't care what kind of games you have or whatever...if kids are going to make fun of and taunt other kids..they will no matter what kind of game you have. Your son is 8...and I think he is old enough for a party like this.

Note : I don't think the show is bad either. The host announces at the beginning of the show the dangers of the stunts and to not attempt. Also, I think its the parents responsibility to explain things as this such. To tell their kids right from wrong..and its only a tv show.

Hey, if there is a problem with the grasshoppers, then why not consider a challenge like eating a spoonful of dead maggots and fish eyes (which would REALLY be cooked rice and olives).

I'm just trying to suggest some other alternatives based on various "haunted houses" we have taken the kids to.

Personally, I would just about eat any "Chocolate covered" thing over a green olive!!! lol

Anyway, just so you know, my daughter is turning 9 years old at the end of this month. I brought this idea up to her yesterday in front of a friend of hers the same age. They both LOVED the idea. Soooo, I'll be planning a Fear Factor Party too! lol

Look, to each his own. I love the idea and think you may have a "thing" going here! Maybe you need to go into the party planning business! Please let me know how things are going! Thanks and hugs! Jenn

For sure My boys would LOVE it. I dont think your stunnts are too bad at all. Its not like you are hurting the bugs at any point and the chocolate covered instects well if porple eat meat then they should not have a problem with it. I sure not and if my 9 year old sees this he is going to want a party just like this. GREAT IDEA!!!!!

THis is great

I would TOTALLY let my kid go. If they want to do that stuff, have at it. I wouldn't do it, but then again I'm not a kid or a boy. Have a great time. PLease post pics for us to see.

Traci,

Sorry, I haven't really been around since last Thursday, but I have to say, that I have a dd who isn't even 2, so I would have to say no on her part... but if we were invited, can I take her place!!!!

That sounds like fun!

My little brother who is turning either 10 or 11 (I'm old, I don't remember!) he would LOVE a party like that!

I think it's cool, I want pictures!!!! I want details, everything!

Have fun!

Hi...my DH and kids like that show, but me, I can't even stand to hear it when it's on. I think tho that your party idea is a good one, but 8 is a real iffy age. Some kids will go for it, some may be grossed out and some may be scared or embarrassed. If its only a few kids invited, I would def. talk to their parents before making a decision...
I usually help with our Sunday School Halloween Party, so thanks! I may somehow incorporate some of this into the next party...(only its Jello and Gummy Worms for the little ones, lol)
Hope its a fun party either way...
Sorry I couldn't read all 20 posts, slow computer..
