You should be able to stay home if thats what you want. I would definately say to let dh tell them though, so they don't "blame" you for ruining their holiday, or changing their plans.
My inlaws always blamed me when dh & I decided TOGETHER to do something they didn't like. SIL actually had the nerve to tell dh that he "had no backbone" and "wasn't the brother she grew up with" well DUH no kidding! Hes now a married man w/kids! And mil actually told me that he went to all the family things before I came along, nice huh? He said she's a liar about that and told her.
I always got blamed and she said we did everything with "my family" and not theirs. Well my family cares about us, maybe that could play a part in it?
