Every year for Xmas we go to the IL's in the morning and end up opening gifts and spending the day there.

I don't see why you wouldn't stay home.

I'm guessing your husband didn't have to leave his gifts and toys every Christmas morning and drive nearly an hour to get to his Grandparents...

The generations have shifted and your husband is "the dad" now and he has his own family, meaning you and the girls.

ITA with Krista. Now that you have your own immediate family, it's time for you to start creating your own traditions.

I would like to add that Ally lives about an hour away. When she was little, Dan's ex insisted that she see both families on Christmas. That was

You should be able to stay home if thats what you want. I would definately say to let dh tell them though, so they don't "blame" you for ruining their holiday, or changing their plans.

My inlaws always blamed me when dh & I decided TOGETHER to do something they didn't like. SIL actually had the nerve to tell dh that he "had no backbone" and "wasn't the brother she grew up with" well DUH no kidding! Hes now a married man w/kids! And mil actually told me that he went to all the family things before I came along, nice huh? He said she's a liar about that and told her.

I always got blamed and she said we did everything with "my family" and not theirs. Well my family cares about us, maybe that could play a part in it?

Anyway, good luck!

We absolutely refuse to go anywhere on Christmas, and everyone knows if they want to see us, they are welcome at our home.

I would have your DH explain to your IL's why ya'll are wanting to change things up for Christmas. Then have him
