My daughter will be 7 months next week and shows NO interest in crawling. She learned to roll from her front to her back a little over a month ago, and that's been the end of her "tummy time." She loves to be upright in her jumper, walker, whatever, and is even starting to take a few steps if you hold her hands and "walk" her. (She's never liked laying on her tummy and has been sitting up unsupported for several months now.)

Our doctor says to keep trying to get her to be on her tummy to play and learn to roll or crawl, but does anyone have any idea how to get her to stay on her tummy, short of putting our hands on her back and forcing her to stay like that? And how important is crawling anyway?

some kids skip crawling and just go straight to walking. i belong to a yahoo group for babies jacob's age, almost 10 mo, and some of those babies dont crawl yet. one pulled himself up the other day and has not crawled at all yet. dont worry, if she wants to crawl she will. and when she does watch out, her legs will be super strong from the jumper and walker!

My dd is just over 10 months now. She has NEVER liked being on her tummy, and showed no interest in crawling. She loved her jolly jumper, and excersaucer thingy, and sitting on the floor, but would scream bloody murder if she flopped on her stomach. I did mentio she is 10 months old right???? About 1 week ago, she showed interest in scooting on her bum over to the coffee tables etc, and trying to pull herself up to stand. Today, I came in the room, and found her on all fours, almost crawling. I know any day now she will do it and world as it is will come to an end!!!! Time to get out the socket plugs, and what not!!!!

Don't worry. It will happen, and when it does, you will dream about the days you have now!!!!

Enjoy them.

My ds started crawling at 7 mo., but started pulling up to a stand and walking around the furniture the same day. However, he is now 15 months old and still won't walk. We hold his hands and if we try to let go he sits down.

My point is...kids do things at their own pace. Good luck!

Thank you! It's so good to hear that it's not totally necessary for her to crawl before she walks!

And trust me, my dh and I firmly believe this is the golden age...she babbles like crazy, giggles, is adorable, and, best of all...she doesn't move!

Don't worry too much about it for it will come in time. I was beginning my little one was never going to crawl for it seemed like my others did it so much sooner. She would scoot on her back or drag herself on her belly. Then one day out of no where she just started crawling and she was probably 9 or 10 months when she started crawling right. She is now 13 1/2 months and taking a footsteps. I really don't believe there is anything for you to worry about.
