I SO MUCH wanted to AVOID THIS!! Ugh!
Michael came straight home (early) after we had lunch and brought the girls home with him, because I had to go somewhere. I came home a little bit ago. He got Matthew off the bus and asked Matthew how he was doing (I wasn't home yet). Matthew said his stomach hurt. Michael blew it off, figuring he was hungry after school. They walked through the open garage to go into the house together, with Justin and the girls in tow, and Matthew promptly threw up all over the garage floor.
OK, well at least it was the garage!!
Michael cleaned it all up before I got home, and hosed out the garage afterwards (I wondered why the garage floor was wet when I pulled his car in). I didn't have to deal with it. But I have a feeling this is not the end of the story, and Michael just took a rectal temp on him and it's 101.5. So Michael says it is not "something he ate" but undoubtedly viral.
AAHHHH!! We haven't had the stomach virus in sooooo long! We've had our colds this year (but not even that many), we even had croup and bronchitis in October. But we've actually been pretty healthy this year. More than *anything* I had hoped to avoid the stomach virus. IT IS JUST THE WORST!!
I am soooo crossing my fingers that it doesn't spread to the other 3 kids (wishful thinking, right?), or especially to Michael and I. Please let this one be short-lived and not go all over the family. And 2 year-olds *never* make it to the toilet or anything to throw up in. BTDT.
Well, at least we got the First Communions over with before it hit. . . I am trying to count my small blessings here!
For those of you (Erin?? Mel??) who've been dealing with a stomach virus, how long has it lasted? We go on vacation for a week on the 27th! Please tell me no one will be throwing up by then. When I ask Michael this, he tells me it depends on the virus. I'm reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally hoping this is a short-lived virus!!
I absolutely cannot stand and totally hate the stomach virus!! And I'm feeling sorry for myself right now. Thanks for letting me vent. Can I throw a pity party? Want to join in?
Sofia

For us, it has lasted a week or so between the both of us. I thought it was gone and it came right back to him in less then a whole week. I had it for 2 days and was fine.
Again, I hope it goes fast and stays just with him. Hope he feels better. WASH
Oh, Sophia, I'm sorry you have to deal with this! The stomach bugs that involve vomiting usually only last a day or two, the ones that involve lower GI can last a bit longer. Nikki's was upper only. She got up at 11:00 Saturday night vomiting. Sunday night the vomiting was over (after about 8 times to the toilet) but she still had a fever. Monday morning the nausea and fever had subsided, but she still had a headache. All in all, I'd call it a 36hr bug. The problem with these kinds of things is not only how long they last when you get them, but also how long it takes from the time you're exposed to the virus to the time you have symptoms. Upper GI only are pretty fast moving, usually 2-5 days, and because I got sick at the same time we could narrow down when we thought we were exposed (on last wednesday there was a girl in Nikki's gymn. class who was nauseous and I sat next to her sister and mother) and then have an idea about when the twins should get sick (shoulda been today). But it's always just a guess, really. The twins STILL haven't got sick and we've reached the point in time where if they do it will totally ruin Nik's birthday, so now instead of hoping they get sick I have to hope they don't at all. I think that's a long shot, though.
If Matthew got sick today, worst case senario is 5-7 days till the rest of you get sick. That puts you at May 23rd. Add to that date how long it takes Matthew to recover and you'll know (best guess, anyway) in what kind of shape you'll be in on the 27th. If it's just upper GI, I think you'll be ok.
Good Luck!
Erin

We are currently fighting a virus that involves a fever and sore throats in our house. Yuck.
Sending get well vibes your way.
Thanks so much for your words of sympathy!! Unfortunately, Erin, it has gone Lower GI.
Luvin3, if your kids have a fever and sore throat, maybe you should get them a strep culture. Sounds streppish to me!
I feel guilty complaining to you all when we have so many sick kids on this board. But where else can I vent my frustrations to those who understand firsthand?
I love you guys!!
