Ok so I'm gloating...

I was fed up with the whole "let's forget about a Girl Scout bridging ceremony and just have a petals awards & certificates, followed by swimming, fajitas, and margaritas" party, so I sent an email to the leaders expressing my concern, an explanation of what a bridging ceremony is supposed to be and the importance of it, and links to the Girl Scout website & to another troop's site that had pictures of their bridging ceremony.
in a nutshell, I basically pointed out that "their way" was NOT in Girl Scout guidelines, and they probably felt like dummies afterwards, because they are now in agreement that the girls should have a bridging ceremony... go figure. These people were going to take the last $70 of troop money just to spend on fajita meat that the kids wouldn't eat anyway.
Anyway, I'm glad that the girls will have their bridging ceremony, but I'm still irritated...
I've already checked for any troops that are made up of homeschooled girls, and there aren't any... I will be starting my own troop this fall, and I can promise you, these girls will learn about Girl Scout traditions & ceremonies, and things will be done correctly... none of this "fajitas & margaritas, fresh fruit with chocolate fondue, and fried cheese for snacks" yuppity garbage that's meant more for the parents than the girls.
whew I feel better!
ETA: ok I guess I should clarify... at one of the meetings for snacks they served fruit & chocolate fondue & fried cheese... I grew up eating cookies & drinking koolaid for snacks at the meetings. They would have the meetings at whoever's house it was to do snacks that week, and every week it got more and more elaborate... funny we never had it at my house... imagine that.

He's kind of a shy kid, and he's very attached to me. I don't know if he'd do well with it or not. On the other hand, it might be just what he needs to give him some confidence and maturity.
