Last night I was in the bathroom upstairs getting ready for bed - it was around 11 or so.

Wow, Liz. I would have called the cops and had them come question him, and run his ID through NCIC for a background check. And Randy's too funny--taking things into his own hands so-to-speak. Thank goodness for the men in our lives! Can you imagine if you'd been alone? How freaky and I'm glad it wasn't worse.

We don't have a gun or a dog (as much as Michael would *love* a dog, I can't bring myself to agree). We do have an alarm system on the house, but I'm alone a lot at night because of his work schedule, and stories like yours make me jumpy. We have a lot of tall trees around our house, too. Kind of makes you edgy with the shadows and all the places someone could hide.

Of course, most burglars, etc. don't walk around a house calling "Hello", but still. . . LOL!

Our police department is a little pathetic too. One time a couple of years ago, Michael was working overnight. At around 3 AM, raccoons knocked over our recycle cans in our driveway. It woke me up it was so loud! I didn't know what it was. I lay there frozen in terror, LOL! Alone in the house with my 4 sleeping babies in the dead of night. I picked up the phone and called Michael at work, like an idiot. Why didn't I call the cops? But you don't think. I just needed to talk to him. He said "Well if it wasn't in the house, I wouldn't worry" (!) I would!! And he told me to call the cops and have them cruise by and walk around the yard and make sure everything was OK. So I did. . .

About an hour later, they come knocking at my door! I'd been lying in terror for an hour, waiting for the Bogie Man, LOL! I put on a robe and went down, once I looked out the window and saw the patrol car in the driveway. They told me it was probably raccoons, and our recycle can had been knocked over and we had cans and bottles all over the driveway.

Then *I* really felt like a paranoid idiot. LOL! Since then, we've kept the recycle in the garage.

OMG! That got my heart racing just reading it!!!

DH really wants to get a firearm for home protection...I've been debating because honestly I'm not a huge fan of them; after years in the military...ugh. Anyway, maybe it's not such a bad idea afterall...

Sounds like you dh handled it a lot like mine would! The worst thing that used to happen around the neighborhood was pesky highschoolers tp-ing and some light vandalizm. We once had a couple of teens ring our doorbell and run. It was the wierdest thing because our br window was open we could here them scuffle up on the porch and it sounded like they were actually trying to break in!! totally freaked me out. Anyway, we watched out the windows till we found them and then dh confronted them!!!! I think they wet themselves!! Dh can be a very scary man and I think he used profanity that they had yet to hear in there short lives. I wasn't sure what was going to happen so I called the police, but it turned out we didn't need them. The boys apologized profusely and then hitailed it outta there. We have had NO minor neighborhood problems since, lol. I felt kinda bad for them, they thought he was gonna go out there and say 'now you boys shouldn't be doin things like that' and instead they were scared poopless. But really it was for their own good, what if someone did think they were trying to break in??

Anyway, we live in a very nice suburban neighborhood that's going through a tough transition. Several families overextended themselves when they bought and have had to move very quickly or have been forclosed on. The house across the street was rented out when the owner couldn't sell it in a timely way and now we have a teenage boy with bad friends who appear to be selling drugs over there. Ain't that grand?? And our neighbor just had stuff stole out of his garage. Much worse than teens ringing doorbells.
