O.K., so we went to a state park, about 20 mins. from the school. We were going to learn orienteering. The 3rd, 4th and 6th graders all went (there is only 1 class of each grade at her school, so not a huge group). They were all given a map, a compass and directions on how to use them together. Each group had a 6th grader leading it, then a couple of 3rd/4th graders (about 4 kids per group). 6th grade has experience with orienteering. Anyhow, scattered storms were predicted for today. So guess what happens? Yes, we just send all the kids out, WITHOUT adults (this is part of the learning experience) and it starts to thunder and DOWNPOUR!! Sheesh!! The plan was for the adults to start each trail backwards and meet the kids in the middle. So here we all are, trying out darndest to read maps that have been zipped into a plastic bag, and figure out our compasses. Within about 20 mins, the rain stopped and the sun came out and then it got HUMID. That was my day. Wish me luck with tomorrow. We are headed out on the ALL SCHOOL field trip to a park about 2 hrs away on the beach. They have tons of really cool things planned for the kids. I can't wait for this one. There are even families going up tonight to camp and they will meet us there tomorrow. The whole 5th grade class is camping. Pray for NO RAIN tomorrow.
Hugs,
WEndy
