Only ONE Toy at a TIME! Any ideas?

Hi ladies,
PLEASE help me teach my sons how to only play with ONE toy at a time!I just spent 30 minutes picking up a living room floor scattered with puzzle pieces, legos, blocks, cars, etc. I try and try and TRY to tell them - but then when I'm not looking a 2nd, 3rd or MORE toy will get added to the chaos.
PLEASE HELP!
Hugs,
K

I really dont know. I have the same problem with my dd. What I have done is I kept the things she plays with alot in a bin in the room where I would like her toys to be (doesnt mean that they are always lol) and the things she hasnt played with properly lately, I packaged up, and have put away. Every now and then she looks for something, so I put away a toy, and bring out the hidden toy. This has helped with the mess, not fully, but at least I'm only picking up 1 puzzle at a time vs 6.
She also has toys that I am trying to get her to keep and play with only in her room. If she wants it, then she has to go to her room to play with it. I dont know what I'll do after Christmas though, because I am running out of hidding places and closet space lol.
Well my kids are a little older now at eight and four so they are not allowed to have toys in the living room anymore. To keep down the clutter in their room though I will take in a kitchen timer and they will have 5 minute cleanup time and will clean till the timer goes off. I do this a few times a day and their room is usually never cluttered.
You might could set a kitchen timer for 10 minutes or so and then have a "toy exchange" to cue them when they can have a different toy.
