PMS?

I was reading about PMS and the week before your period because I have a difficult time, and I get very stressed and emotional during this time. Like sometimes I feel like I can't handle daily activities, I obsess about the littlest things, and I can't make decisions. Well, Im sick of feeling this way and there has to be something I can do so I don't feel this way, because my actions affect the whole family and it's not fair. I wanted to ask everyone here how they cope with this, or maybe you don't experience this before your period? DO you think I need some type of medication? ALso, my periods are super heavy(I know, TMI), so it takes a lot out of me when I do start. I have to take 800 mg. of Motrin every 6 hours when I have my period per my dr. to slow it down some. Should I try Birth Control to slow it down, is anyone here on BC?

Hi, im on BC to try to control my ovarian cysts. Umm i would talk to your doc about it because it kinda screwed up my cycle..... but that could be because of the level of hormone required to control the cysts. i have an appt. aug 15th to talk to them about all this cause its driving me nuts. i have heard before about BC helping to regulate periods, im not sure about the lightening part tho. best bet it to talk to you ob/gyn about it.
Good luck!!!!!

I think you should consider bcp and talk to your gyne. I am on the pill and it works great for me, even if it makes talking dh into a vas almost impossible. I know a lot of women who went on the pill just to regulate their cycle and control issues like yours, and it worked great for them. I experience some of the same problems as you as far as being stressed and emotional and I'm not sure the pill has helped. It has reduced the amount of flow and cramping, though. It certaily would be worth trying.

I went off bc for a few months for, ahem, personal reasons, but have gone back on simply because my body is used to it. When I went off I went from a 28 day cycle to a 24 day cycle, which didn't make me so happy. And it was nice to see my flow lighten up when I went back on it, confirming to me that it's the best option for me (even though I'd love dh to get a vas!)

Hi Kate,

I don't take anything to "smooth me out" (maybe I should, LOL!), but just wanted to let you know that I, too, often have a very hard time with PMS. Some months are worse than others. Sometimes I'm a raving you-know-what and take it out on DH and the kids. Some months I'm crying over every little thing, or obsessing over worries that normally aren't that big of a deal. Sometimes I'm just really tense and stressed for no reason. Once in a while I'm lucky, and it seems to come and go without much more than sore boobs.

I'm a little leary to go on any kind of anti-depressants or mood-altering things when it's only about a week or so out of every month. So I put up with it, and, unfortunately, everyone suffers.

Sorry I can't offer better advice, but just wanted to let you know that you're not alone!!
