Poor baby has hives - questions!

DD broke out in hives this week - something she ate. Does anyone know how long they last before they heal? They seem to be spreading all over and are huge. How long before she can get some relief? They're pretty bad. Any advice is appreciated!

TIA,
Melissa

My three year old suffered from food allergies. A dose of children's benydryl usually cleared it up and prevented any itching. I would however call the pediatrician just in case the "hives" are potentially something more serious.

I broke out in hives when I was younger, a few times, did not know the cause though.
I think they last a week or more. But I had a bad reaction to them and went to the ER each time.
Ask the dr what you can do to help stop the itching, cause the more you itch, the worse it will get.
Good luck.

My son has had skin allergies since he was a baby and hives are not fun for anyone. Benadryl works wonders and they even have a free and clear one. Normally Colin's hives will disappear in less then an hour after giving him a dose.

I have also found everything and anything that causes his eczema to get worse or causes him to break out and avoid all these.

An oatmeal bath is also highly recommended.

Hugs to you and your DD!!

Yes, benedryl seems to be the only thing that helps along with a oatmeal bath does help with any itching. My daughter too has allergies and would get hives all the time when she was younger. Poor baby!! I hope she is feeling better soon. If they do get worse or you don't see any improvement I would go to the doctor as it may be something else. Good luck

my daughter had hives a few months ago due to an allergic reaction to amoxicilin. not only did she have hives her hands, arms, legs, and feet were swelling so bad they had begun to turn purple. the dr recommended we use free and clear benadryl and gave us a steroid to get rid of the hives. within 7-10 hours the swelling had gone down and her hives had begun to disappear.
