i'm having a war at home with my dd ella who is 3 yrs old and potty training ,she is
driving me nuts , she has been potty training since march and still wets the pull ups
and will just not use the toilet so i decided to put panty on her, this mom i met said to
ty that ,that's how her daughter learned, she stoppped peeing on herself w/in 3 days, and she used the potty ever since. i didn't have this problem with my son . he was potty trained by his 3rd bday. i think she is just stubborn , she outsmarts me all the time
i check her pullup and it's dry so i praise her for not wetting it but when i go into her room , i find a wet pull up on the floor. just today she is in the bathroom , i thinking she was going to the potty she sure did in her panty #2 then she tells me she took it out of her panty with her hands and through in the toilet , i find #2 all over the sink were
she tried to wash it off of her hands the panty on the floor full of poop her sitting back on the toilet telling me "i did it mom it's in the toilet" ok grant it , it's in the toilet just not the traditonal way , so i grab the colorox cleanup, but 1st wipe her clean, then clean the toilet seat and the sink that is full of you know what. so any suggestions? i need help....

We did try the pull-ups (think they are a waste of $) and we did the big boy underware. No luck, he just does not want to do it
My Sarah's 3 1/2 and was finally PT'd about 2 months ago. I've been tryin since she was 1 1/2! We tried a potty chart, buying "pretty" Panties if she was dry 1 whole day (or a dolly), having her take her own baby in to be potty trained, and treats when she would go pee. Hit and miss some of it worked , but never for long. With mine, she just did it when she figured out that I was done messing around with it and I just stopped letting her wear pull ups except to bed. Looking back, in my case, I just wasn't consistent at all with her like I was with my other 2 kids.
Just decide which method you want to do and stick with it as best you can. I think this is by far the hardest thing to teach kids, so don't feel bad if it's taking it's toll on either of you!

GOOD LUCK!!!
I've not been in your situation so I don't know if what I'm going to say is going to help or not. (dd was pt right at 2 and ds at 2 1/2. Graham is only 21mo and I'm not looking to pt until 2 1/2 or there abouts...)
When I trained my dd I tried the pull-ups and honestly, they were just too much like a diaper. I ditched those for the thick training pants and she did better in those but still, they were too thick. I then went to plain ol' panties so she could FEEL the wetness etc. (I did put a diaper cover over to keep things like the couch, dry) With ds, I went straight to underwear. I started off initially (well before the actual pt process) but having the potty seat in the bathroom, having them sit on it before baths and when up from sleep times. Once I was ready to officially "train" I set a time for every 30 min. throughout the day. When the time rang, they went on the potty. We made a game out of it....I praised them (clapping/singing/dancing etc.) whether they did something or not...if they did something, they got 3 m&m's.
The way I see it you have 2 options. You can 1) totally get rid of the pull-ups and stick to her like glue, guiding her to do the right thing in the potty or 2) put her back in diapers and wait until she's more ready.
There is no magic timeline for potty learning. Most pediatricians don't even recomend trying before 2 yrs old, although some kids just happen to be ready before then. My daughter Jenny didn't potty learn until she was 4 (other dd 2.5, ds 3). I talked to the pediatrician about it when she turned 3 and they couldn't have been less concerned. She was ready physically but not emotionally. I was pulling my hair out over it. Finally she decided it was time and we threw away the diapers and went straight to panties, no accidents.
Kids feel stress. If you're constantly putting pressure on them to do something they don't want or maybe can't, they're going to stress out and increase the probablility that they fail. All you can do is let them see you doing it and give them the option of doing that also. Potty training should be easy, it's the moms (myself included) that make it hard. I think parents very often see their 3yo in diapers and are worried about what people will think of them as a mother. It has nothing to do with your abilities as a mom, it's about the child.
So I said all this to say this: RELAX!! :o) Her getting it right is inevitable. When was the last time you saw a kindergartener in diapers?? It'll click eventually. Someday you'll be like me, looking back at it all with a sense of humor.
