Pregnant and Job searching.. HELP

Hi ladies!! I need your advice. I'm currently a stay at home mom of Ava (8 months) and we are pregnant again (OOPS) and i'm already 5 months along. We just recently moved to a different state because my dh got a better job offer. This second pregnancy was unplanned and we were shocked with the news. Ever since we've moved (2 months ago) I have been job hunting but since we live in a small community it's not as easy as I thought it would be to get a job. Well, I just went to an interview today for an inbound sales position and they called me back for a second interview. I just don't know whether or not to let them know i'm pregnant because I don't want to be denied the position because we REALLY need the money. I plan on going back to work after our second child is born but i'm confused as to what I should do. Wait until i'm hired, then tell them or tell them in the 2nd interview and risk the chances of getting hired (which are high)!

Any advice?

in my opinion, I would think you should tell them you are pregnant. Especially since you are already 5 months along. (I beleive that's what you said) it's probably only a matter of weeks before youre showing, if not already. I don't know what state you live in and what the requirements are for time in a job before being eligable for mat leave ect, but I think you should either tell them and work as a full time temp position until you deliver (and hopefully qualify for mat leave) and if they don't hire you, then find a different temp type job.

Just my opinion however! Good luck to you!

I agree that you should tell them. Legally in the US they can't discriminate against you because you're pregnant...but that doesn't mean it might not affect their hiring decision. Just be honest with them about your intentions...how long you'll need off when you have the baby and that you definately plan to return to work after. And find the right time to tell them...maybe when they ask that "where do you see yourself in 5 years" question you can slip in that you'll be having another baby soon and then you're really ready to focus on your career. Something like that.

Good luck!

Before I was a SAHM, I was a recruiter and ran into this with my candidates all the time. I found that the best thing to do would be to work as a temp until you have the baby. That way, the company is getting a great employee without having to incur the costs of a full time employee who needs maternity leave and medical insurance. They fear that they will spend this money and chance the fact that you may not come back to work. If you work temp, you can work long term temp, even up until your due. Just tell your recruiter you are looking for long term temp and you have 3-4 months to work. I've even seen cases where the company someone temped at loved them so much, they wanted them back to hire full time when the person was available.

Anyway, that's my two cents and it seems to be a win-win for both the new mama and the company. Good luck!

Legally, you don't have to tell them (aren't you showing already?). However, ethically, I think the best thing to do is to tell them.

Think of it this way, if you were the boss, would you want to know that a potential employee will be taking several months off in a few months?

You can try working from home. If you are self-motivated, this is a great option. Visit the Work From Home board for ideas!

Good luck and congrats on the new baby,

I do not think they can deny you the job because you are pregnant, there are laws against that.
Good luck on getting the job.
And congrats on your baby.
