question for you all...

as some of you may know, Jett has never been a good pooper. he will go 4-5 days without any bowel movements, and by the 3-4th day, he's miserable. Crying and grunting and nothing happening. At our last drs appointment, she said to go ahead and put 1 ounce of prune juice mixed with 2 ounces of water in a bottle and give it to him. I tried this today. He didnt like it at all, and only drank about an once...maybe. He's now sleeping (probably from all the crying lol)

So, my question is, has anyone tried this with thier newborns? Does it work? How long does it take to work? If it makes him poop, will it be one poop and he's done, or should I be expecting a day of diareah?

Lesley,
I've never tried prune juice with my kds, I tried another method. Dom had a hard time going poop, so I would use a thermometer to make him go. I know it sounds gross, but he would get miserable, so I would never let him go more than 2 days. I think prune juice would make them gassy, but it's only my opinion. The thermometer worked right away, and I only had to do this for about a month until he would go on his own....and it works wonders and he was a happy baby afterwards! Goodluck!:)

You could also try apple juice or apple prune if he doesnt like the taste of straight prune.

When Logan was a baby we used Karo dark syrup. It worked really well for us. I can't remember how much but we put it in his bottle and he was good to go. HTH
