Ok, this really isn't a parenting question, but I'm hoping maybe you can give me your input.

I go over to the gym I've had a membership to for almost 2 years. Sign on the door, telling me and this other woman that the place has filed for bankruptcy, and our memberships are being honored at another club 2.5 miles down the road.

I go there, and it's a gym that's had a bunch of different owners in the last few years. I wasn't overly impressed by it, it just looked like a big gym. However, the last one I was in was all women, and this one has both women and men. The new owner told me that they were going to work on a space for just women. Rumors were running rampant around the gym, somebody told me a week- I don't think so! More like a couple of months!

Here's the question. My contract at this place is up in 4 months. I'm seriously thinking about somewhere else. If you belong to Bally's or Gold's Gym, could you tell me how you like it, how long of a contract they ask etc. Or- another option I'm looking at is Curves, I wasn't really impressed by it at first, but since it is only women, and the workout is done in 30 mintues it could be worth looking at. Do you get bored there, since it's only a few exercises, and there aren't any classes?

You can either email me or post here, Thanks!

Hi! I happen to love Curves, it doesn't get too boring because it's over so quickly and often the women there talk to each other. I would often go with a friend and we could talk the whole time and it made it go faster, or I'd share weights with the person next to me and get in a conversation. Also, I took off 4 inches in 2 months. Don't know if that's good overall, but it's good for me.

HTH!

My hubby and I found a local gym that advertised as a "family" health club. It's a little more than the Y, ($60/month for whole family) but includes classes, swimming and day care on site (a HUGE very nice and clean supervised play room with mats and toys, etc). I found that because we have a family membership, it encouraged us to go more often--we went much less often individually before. After all, we had to work around each other and the kids--this makes it a group outing. We're even taking a yoga class together, which is pretty funny--trust me. Even at co-ed facilities, most of the time you can find classes that are pretty much all female, and the locker rooms are seperate anyway, so that's not a worry. The "family" oriented ones don't attract the HUGE body builder types, either, so you don't have to feel like you're working out next to the incredible hulk. (I have a lot of female friends who say that's the biggest reason they stopped going to Gold's--the muscle guys were a little intimidating and outnumbered them.) Anyway, that's my thoughts on the health club thing--hope it helps.
