Question about baby's eating habits...

I would post this on Baby's First Year Board, but no one EVER answers posts there...I figured you all have children so you could help me out.

My son is seven months old and I started him on cereal at four months. He did really good at swallowing, but seemed to dislike it. I tried adding fruit, and he hated that. I tried fruit alone, he hated that. (This all took place over the last few months.) I then started him on veggies, and he LOVES those. He practically drinks them. But now when I try to give him fruits or cereal, he clamps his mouth shut. I have tried EVERYTHING. All different combos of fruit. I've tried sneaking in bites of fruit between veggies, and he stops eating completely. I've tried jarred cereal. No!!! Should I even worry about this? The only thing I can get him to eat that has Vitamin C in it is coconut pudding. He loves that. So is that enough? Is this a valid concern, or should I just relax and give him veggies for breakfast? I wish he would eat some cereal, it is so good for him! I don't know how he knows when I add cereal to something, but he does. I think it might be the texture. Any tips or just telling me to not worry is appreciated

Are you feeding him all jarred, pureed baby foods? My little guy did cereal for a while but was pretty impatient with it and pureed fruit. When we hit finger foods-he just took off and now I give him canned fruit (preferably packed in water) thats cut up into pieces. 7 months might be too young but pears are pretty soft. Mine doesn't eat cereal at all now but devours pancake bites in the morning. I make the pancakes with 1/2 white flour, 1/2 bran and applesauce replaces the oil so pretty healthy.

I actually tried to give him a little banana today, and he got a big chunk in his mouth and I had to dig it out when he started gagging. Scary. I think for now, I'll just stick to veggies for breakfast!!!

Just wanted to say that these are both very active playgroups. Don't know if you have an April or March baby but here are the links. I know the May playgroup answers tons of my questions! HTH

Its been a long time (my kids are 4 and 7 now) But I wouldn't worry at all. You definitely don't want meals to be a battle, plus veggies are MUCH better for him than fruit or cereal! So I would be happy! There's no need to push "sweets" and give them a sweet tooth early, in fact my dr always said no fruit til 10 months so they don't develop a taste for sweets only. And once they are eating fingerfoods, they will get tons of carbs, so ceral really isn't an issue. Mine never ate cereal (still don't) and they survived!

If he wants veggies for breakfast, go for it! Many people in our country would be healthier/not overweight if they cut down on the carbs/fruit and ate more veggies! I think he has the right idea, I wish I would eat like that!
