I do think that they are going overboard with all this, but he did want this when he died.
I do think they should back off a bit and let Mrs. Regan have some time to grieve without all the cameras and have a moment of privacy to mourn him with her family.
I hate the media and how they have to be there every second and how us americans think we should see it all.
It was a "State Funeral"--I think that's the title. Offered to presidents when they enter office as a way of saying thanks. The funeral is laid out in a 300+ page document, down to seating charts. Yes, it does seem a bit much, but Ronald Reagen gave so much to this country. He gave his family, Nancy, his thoughts, and he fought for what he felt the country needed.
He was the 40th President, a piece of history. The funeral was a close to that part in history, and very well done. Though it was lengthy, private funerals have a wake, ceremony, then burial. This was similar -- on a larger much larger scale -- but they took him to Washington so that the country (who all felt they knew him, and were touched by him) could pay their respects and say Goodbye.
It was wonderful to see the country come together again. Though it may have seemed political, the same thing would have happened if a Democrat was in office.
