Question about solids

I am very confused about starting solids for my baby, she will be 4 months on the 18th. My doctor said no solids until 4 months well she is showing every sign of being ready so I went ahead and started her on the on Dec 1st. (on rice cereal though) Anyway, she eats it really good hardly spits anything back out, really she likes to eat it she smiles and goos when I am feeding it to her, but I have been getting some slack from other mothers saying that I have started to early and that I need to listen to my doctor. I just want to know if I did the right thing or not. I feel that I did because she loves it and has no problems at all. Thanks in advance for opinions

Your kid, your rules - if you enjoy the interaction when feeding her then go for it!

I started DD around 4 months when I got the okay from the ped and she acted like she was ready. You are a week away from 4 months. Things won't suddenly be different on the 18th. Do what you think is best and that is the correct choice.

I think that you did the right thing. Yes, your peditrication may have gone to school to be a doctor, but your the mother in this situation. I started my daughter on cereal at 4 months, but she's already eating pears and peaches and she'll be 6 months on the 22nd. Dont worry about what other people say or think.

I don't think you did the wrong thing. I started my second child on solds around 4 months, and he did great and was ready for them. You know your baby the best, do what's best for her.

I think that you should be able to tell when your baby is ready. Please be careful though on moving too fast. I in no way want to tell you what to do, but my daughter passed away from a choking incident, so I am very careful about those kind of things. I'm sure everything will be fine as long as you watch her closely.

i waited until my boys were ready. my oldest i think started at about 3 or 4 months and my youngest at about 5 or 6 months but i think that is because he was born 6 weeks early.

Somehow I missed your introduction when you first came to the board last month, so I didn't realize that you had lost a child. I'm at a loss for words, but know that you and your family are in my prayers. I can't imagine what you have been through losing your sweet daughter. Please know that we are are here for you if you ever need to talk about it.

These silly doctors don't have a clue!! ;)

Follow your Mommy instincts. Some people put cereal in their kids' bottles as young as 2 months. Cereal is not going to hurt her. The main reason they like you to wait on solids is so the baby doesn't develop allergies or intolerance to certain foods. It's so their immune systems can mature. Sounds like your daughter is precocious.
