It's not a big surprise to dh, myself, or my Mom as we've kind of had a feeling he might be on the high end of it and can socialize pretty well.

Jessie,

I have two scriptures for you, which I bet you have heard before:
2 Timothy 1:7 - For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
1 John 4:18 - There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear

I just wanted to encourage you! Maybe it's because it's Sunday - and I'm getting my "preach" on... No, I think I would share that anyway. It's perfectly human to be a bit afraid, but you are right to be optimistic! I have several friends with autistic children, and they all have been very blessed

My son also has autism and adhd, my husband has apergers which is the very high end of autism. The only thing I can say is it isn't that bad, i can deal with both very well, and some of the things they do don't really bother me. The other thing you have to realize is that no medication can help, and he may never be cured meaning he will be autistic his whole life. It is up to the parent on how to handl it, and to teach him how to get along in society. I suggest going to therapy, therapy has tremendously helped my husband deal with certain things in his life, he is not cured but knows his triggers, and how to deal with them properly. My son may end up going to therapy once he hits middle school, as I have heard many horriblestories from other parents on how badly they treat autistic children, not the teachers but the other kids.

Good Luck, it's not the end of the world, but a new
