Okay I am sure everyone here knows that I homeschool and so does a couple other people here...but how come we never talk about school kids here? Do we have any school age kids in public or private school or even preschool here? I know Mel just put Andrew back in public school so I would love to talk more about your school age kids! What are they doing in school, how are they doing? Anyone have report card brags or Teacher brags about your kids.

I used to teach pre-k and I love hearing about kids in all types of school situations. Any Kindergarten graduates this year or anyone have kids starting high school?

Just curious...

My dd is in K and I would love to hear from other moms about their school aged kids. Sending my dd to school was a big adjustment for me! The first week she went I actually cried - my husband thought I was nuts!

If anyone else has a kid in K, what types of things are they learning?
Is it full day or half day?

Thanks for bringing this up Traci. I think it's a great topic!

Andrew is in K. He goes a full day from 8:00am - 2:30.
Right now they are doing a lot of different things, like time, and some of the things they started doing in the beggining of the year.
Today they had a Easter party and egg hunt.

My oldest, Andrew, is in first grade. He's a smart little cookie-reading at the third grade level. When he was in kindergarten, they actually put him with the first grade class during reading. Anyway-they are kind of letting him go at his own pace with reading, but I'm not sure how I feel about the math part. He zooms thru it all too fast and I can see him getting bored because it's not a challenge for him. They don't really do accelerated classes until third grade, which I think is too late, but anywhoo...

So he's a smarty, but no where ready to skip a grade. Emotionally he is very much a first grader, lol. The school he goes to is really great in teaching tons of different things. They just finished up a project about Washington DC. They got to build all the buildings (like the White House) out of every day objects and then gave a "tour" to the parents. Pretty cool. His teacher is great about fostering independence and responsibility. She stresses the fact that if the child forgets his library books it is not mom or dad's fault. They are responsible for their own things, which is nice. But I swear I sign my life away every night-poetry book, nightly reading, and all the other forms you get.

Anyway-that's my guy. :)

Thanks everyone for sharing!

We are doing very little this week since we are taking spring break. I needed this week!

Next week we start learning about parts of a seed and plants ,and we will grow our own garden. We are pretty excited about this. The kids are crazy about the new gardening things I got them and can't wait to try it out.

Keep sharing weekly about the stuff your kids are doing in school! I love hearing about it.
