selling on e-bay

I was wondering if anyone here sells on e-bay? We started about a year ago but not seriously-just to sell our stuff around the house as i don't like organizing garage sales.

I buy things on there too, only to find now there is special software to let you get in at the very last minute of bidding. Childrens clothes don't seem to sell unless there are designer labels in large lots. I thought about seriously getting into it but seems like quite a lot of work. any comments?

What software are you talking about?

All I know about is the proxy bidding, which I guess is OK, but I still end up watching the auction close.

Clothing does not seem to move well.

I have some cloth diapers I used with my first ds I am going to sell in lots. I know people sew their own cloth diapers but I am not sure how many of those are sold on ebay stores or auctions. People seem to be having success with setting up ebay stores and selling specific products. I noticed someone is selling IKEA stuff that IKEA will not sell through mail order. Not a bad idea. If you have something unique in your area or difficult to purchase through conventional means, you could try that. I lived in Iceland for a while and my dh's aunt tried to convince me to sell the Hard Rock Cafe pins. But for the cost of gas to Reykjavik and the cost of listing and what they were going for, it was not worth it. But, that is an example.

We have been selling and buying on ebay for years. What I do to make extra money is I search garage sells, consigments and thrift shops for name brand baby and toddler clothes and shoes (name brand only like Gymboree-baby Lulu-Hanna Anderson-Stride Rite-etc). I clean it up and resale it on Ebay. I make a pretty good profit off my items. I also resale my girls clothing and shoes. I buy only name brand and most of the time I get most of my money back on it. I use the moneys to either buy her more stuff or put it away for groceries-bills-etc. You really have to research and see what sells well. I do know that baby items and childrens shoes do well. There are certain times of the year that Ebay slows down and picks up. Usually the last half of summer and beginning of the school year and right after Christmas are slower times. Usually between the end of September thru November Winter items sell well and Spring items usually sell well starting March thru April then Summer starts usally in May. It takes some work on your part to figure out what is hot-what will get you the most profit-where to find the items to sell. One of a kind original items that you really can't find in stores sell well. I hope this gives you some ideas. My father in law makes a living selling on Ebay selling antiques and collectibles, but he has worked for years at getting his set up. My sister and brother in law also sell on Ebay and they sell Sports related items from stores that have gone out of business. I was down at one of the local Baby consigment shops and the lady told me that she has women that come in on a monthly basis to buy $500 worth of items that they turn about a $300 profit on or more selling on Ebay. There are those that live in places that they can't get these items. Also, we live in California where there are some wealthier areas and I search those stores because I can find some good stuff. Good luck and really do the research. Have fun!!

Trish :)
