I need advice! My daughter will not take her medicine a azithromyacin liquid for bronchitus. We have tried hiding it in juice, water, will not work she spits it right out or wont drink it at all. We have tried lying her down and putting it in her cheek she just will cry hysterically and not close her mouth until all of the liquid is out. Please please help, my baby is very sick!

Thanks!

My dd was like that when she was little. We would just take the medicine dropper and put a DROP in her mouth at a time. I know this will take you FOREVER to get her one dose, but its better than her vomiting it all up, like my dd did. Or worse, having to be hospitalized from getting more sick. HTH!

Talk to your pharmacist.

((((Monica)))) It's really obvious how much you love your daughter and want to help her. :) My doc recommended putting little drops of it into my ds's cheek, then softly massaging that cheek. She says it forces them to swallow it. If you use a little dropper for it, there won't be so much to spit up at a time, and the massaging makes it a reflex to swallow, so she can't fight it. I like the taste additive in the meds idea, too. G/L! I hope your dd feels better soon - you, too!

Monica, I haven't read the other responses yet, but my DH is a doctor, and he uses something called FLAVOR X with his pediatric patients, and with our kids as well. You can get it at the pharmacy. It's added to liquid meds to make them taste better, and comes in a bunch of flavors. He mixes the nasty-tasting meds up with it. He can get the meds down their throats fast because he's practiced with it, but I have a harder time with the kids, and he's told me to do it just a little bit at a time, and put the drops in their cheeks, between their upper teeth and cheek. Or also under the tongue if they're lifting their tongues and that is easier. If you give her too much at a time, she'll spit it out.

That's my best advice. I would go and get that FLAVOR X and add it to the meds ASAP.

Good luck!!

Sofia

Monica, I have nothing to add except once you give her some medicine lightly blow on her face and it will cause her to have a reflex that will make her swallow.
