Small poll about how you run your house
| Mon, 08-21-2006 - 3:50pm |
I have a bit of a poll. I am just wondering if anyone else's house works the same as mine.
1. Who does the grocery shopping? Do you do it as a family or alone? Do you take the kids with you?
2. Who does the cooking in your house?
3. Who does the cleaning?
4. Do you ever get out with girl-friend(s) for dinner or movie? If so, how often?
5. Do you do any activities outside of the house? (ie: part time work, gym membership)
6. How many kids do you have and how old are they?
7. How often do you do laundry?
8. How often do you clean the house?

1. Grocery shopping is kind of ad hoc. Typically, the whole family goes for the big grocery trips on a weekend day. But I end up bringing DS to the store during the week to pick up odds and ends. I rarely go alone. It may sound lame, but even when we were dating DH and I used to like going to the grocery store to pick things up and make dinner at his house. The one thing I treat myself to each week is fresh flowers. I don't spend more then $8 and sometimes as little as $4 a week but since I am home all day I enjoy having them on my dining room table. Today for $8 I picked up three stems of orange tiger lillies (each stem had about three flowers and some buds) and five irises. Last week DH got me orange tiger lilies and yellow gerber daisies. It really motivates me to keep the dining room table clean because what is the point of beautiful flowers sitting on a cluttered table?
2. Since I'm about to have our second baby (two more weeks!) dinner is kind of free form too. The night before last I ended up picking up Chipolte for us and tonight was a frozen pizza. Every Wednesday we have dinner with our friends two doors down and rotate houses every other week. When it's our turn to host I like to make a nice sit down meal. DH has been working late a lot so I usually eat with DS and DH eats when he gets home but we sit with him. Funny thing is, and I hope once things settle down with the new baby, I have a list of about 24 dinner ideas including sides in a binder recipes and grocery lists included. The plan was to choose 5-7 meals a week and just copy down the stuff I needed from my ingredients list. I have had a few weeks like that and I have to say it was nice knowing I had a plan for every night. Since I set up the binder I know I can always get back into it. Last month I went to one of those meal preparation places and made 6 four serving meals to freeze for the first two weeks the baby is here so we wouldn't be living on take out the whole time. I also want to start using my crock pot more. Before work got insane for DH and he could get home at a decent hour he would grill and I would make a side dish or chop the vegtables for grilling.
3. I do the majority of the cleaning. DH handles things like steam cleaning the carpets and those kind of jobs. But I would have to say I do 95% of it.
4. It isn't often that I have a Girl's Night Out. However, DH is good about me getting out. Some evenings, I will just go to Barnes & Noble and get a cup of coffee and read.
5. I worked part time until March of this year and I plan on renewing my Curves membership after my 6 week post pardem check up.
6. We have a son who will be three in September and are expecting our second on Labor Day!
7. Oh God Laundry! I think there is a load of wash festering in the machine as we speak. I was doing so well with it until last week when my back started to go. I used to try to do it Mon, Wed, Fri whatever didn't get done Monday was stacked away in the laundry room until Wed etc. But I've fallen off that wagon. I'd really like to get a handle on it because I don't want a huge backlog when I go into the hospital.
8. I feel like I'm always cleaning! I've tried flylady and I like aspects of it. Ideally, on a "perfect" day it goes like this:
Every evening the sink is empty counters and dining room table wiped down. All toys put back, kitchen dining room swept, living room carpet sweeper used. Everything straightened for the next day. Coffee pot ready to go for next day.
I have disposable gloves, a toilet wand with disposable heads, clorox hard surface spray and wipes under each bathroom vanity. The idea being that all of the cleaning supplies are always at hand. I try to do the bathrooms once a week. It's crazy we live in an 1800 sqft. townhouse and have 3 1/2 baths. I don't understand the logic of that. Especially since 31/2 = 4 toilets to clean. I have yet to find a system that works. I've thought of doing upstairs bathrooms on Tuesdays downstairs bathrooms on Thursdays. Or the zones but I've yet to fall into a routine. Dusting is another thing that doesn't happen as often as I'd like. Most of the time I just try to have a clean kitchen, passable bathrooms and all the junk picked up!
