We actually had a really good time after all :)

I went in and got my hair and nails done and a pedicure, even though my shoes didn't show my toes (why not while I'm at it, right? LOL). I had my hair in an up-do with a few strands hanging down, but it didn't look messy. I didn't show Michael my dress until I put it on, and his eyes about popped out of his head! It was a fun dress, but I'll probably never wear it again:

He had to wear a tux and he said he felt like a penguin, but he looked really handsome (at least to me, and that's all that matters, right?).

We sat with our 3 best "couple" friends who are doctors and their spouses who work with Michael, and also Michael's PA and her fiancee, and we were laughing the whole night. The food looked too pretty to eat, but it was good, and we had a few cocktails.

The best part was after dinner. They had an awards presentation, so I sat back for the long boring haul, and clapped for everyone and their speeches. All of a sudden, they called Michael's name!! I couldn't believe it. It was totally unexpected. He was so stunned he actually sat there for about 10 seconds with his eyes huge and his mouth hanging open. He said he thought at first that he was hearing things! The Chief of Staff presented him with a plaque for the humanitarian work he did after Hurricane Katrina (I wasn't on this board then, but he went down to the Gulf Coast and volunteered for 3 weeks for medical relief in the shelters). It was especially nice because the hospital didn't send him, he volunteered his own time, so it was nice to have them recognize him for it. He was very touched and happy I think :) And our friends at our table all stood up for him and so the whole room followed, giving him a standing ovation. I was *so* proud of him!! He also made a quick thank you speech and said he couldn't have done it without the love & support of his wife, which made me blush, but was also very sweet and made me feel good.

Anyway, after dinner they had dancing. The music wasn't the best, but we love to dance together, so it was fun.

So it turned out to be a fun evening after all my griping. I just have to stick with our friends and stay away from the snooty physicians and their wives, and I do OK with these social things to do with his work.

Thanks for asking!! How was your night out?? I thought of you!
