I am not much of a green thumb, but thought I would try a small garden this year. What is easy to grow and doesn't take a lot of effort? I would like to get the kids involved, any ideas?

One thing that is really easy to grow is pumpkins. Just be careful cause they are a pain in the behind if you wanna try to get them out. Also I have had alot of luck with onions and green beans. The green beans are nice cause the kids can pick them. Um oh and carrots have always seem to be easy for me.

We just bought a new house a few months ago and I have to start a new garden. I am looking so forward to it. It's been a slow process but it's actually starting to look like I might be able plant something.

I wish you good luck and let us know how it's going.

I've heard that strawberries are easy to grow also. If you want a flower garden I would try perineals that are already partially grown. I have planted bulbs in the past and for got what I planted and where I planted them. YOu get a better idea of how they will look if you plant them already started.

You could also do an herb garden - very easy to do if you buy the herbs already potted - just stick them in the ground. Most of them don't need a lot of watering, which is nice during the hot summer. Good luck!

My Dh and I have a large garden and love to work it. It is a lot of work but it can be done.

I do suggest you start of small all the ideas presented here are great. My suggestion would be cherry tomatos. Get a tomato cage you will need it! Cucumbers are easy as well.

Happy Summer

i also found green peppers to be super easy to grow...never had to do anything w/them and we love to put them in our salads or just grill them. i don't know why but i killed my cuc's...they just never grew when i planted them but like the other poster wrote, i also grew cherry tomatoes and they were super easy. as far as flowers, annuals are nice because they come back year after year w/out having to regrow...you just have to prune them, etc.

The things I found that are easy and fun for the kids for picking are: tomatoes-peppers both bell and hot-squash-zucchini-pumpkins (the easiest)-carrots-onions-and strawberries. How fun. I can't wait to start with my daughter. :)
