if anyone has any suggestions, id love to hear it, my 12 month old has 4 teeth whichi brush along with his gums and tongue, but hes got the nastiest breath. I have no idea why, but i think its coming from in his throat or the way back of his mouth where i dont brush because he gags. Does anyone know what could be causing this? its SO foul when he laughs in my face i cringe.

yeah he does let me brush it, pretty far back too, but it doesnt help much, its farther than i can get with a toothbrush, cause i can smell it when hes drinking a bottle and hes breathing through his nose

Bad breath could be tonsilitis, pus, in his tonsils, maybe you can go in for a check up, at the docs. If he is NOT Breastfed it may milk products. I would check to see his tonsils though as a precaution.

Hmmm, that doesn't sound right to me. All my kids had the sweetest breath :) until they were well into their toddler years. Even as a 7 yr old, my dd doesn't get THAT bad of breath. I agree with the pp to consult you ped.

Have you checked in his nose? He could have put something up his nose that is making his breath stinky. Especially if his nose is running. Take a flashlight, tip his head back and have a look. Apparently, that is a major cause of stinky breath in little kids--foreign objects in their noses (according to my DH, who is a doctor).

Just a suggestion. You should call your doctor though.

If it is not remedied by brushing his teeth or tongue then it is an underlying problem. I would go ahead and make any appointment with your pediatrician just to have it checked out. You would hate for him to have a sinus infection and let that go. Trish

if it was something as serious as his tonsils/adnoids wouldnt he be in pain all the time or at least have a hard time eating?

I have the same problem with my 5 year old. his is caused by a hole in his tonsils. bacteria gets in there and the only fix is to take them out. his is getting done next month.
