Ok, I am getting a little concerned here!

My 12 year old has been on a vicious cycle of strep throat/tonsilitis for about 14 mos now.

I think I would check with the DR one more time to see if it could be a reaction to the steroids she was given or maybe her meds. just to be safe. My niece had a bad reaction to a steroid she was given one and threw up from it. You never know, better safe then sorry I always feel. ((Big hugs)) I am thinking if you and hope things get better and the surgery goes well!

Could she be reacting the Omnicef? I know this is pretty strong stuff, as one of my own dd's was on this when she was about 6 (for a mouth infection she got). Can she handle some yogurt? I know it is really good for your stomach, as far as helping with the natural bacterias that your stomach produces.....

I'm so sorry that she is so sick. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. Let us know what happens...

Hugs,
Wendy

Honestly, I'd march her to the Emergency room. You can't mess with strep throat. Even if it's just the meds, it can't hurt (except to your pocket book) to take her in and get some bloodwork done, just to be sure she's ok. Having strep this often and being on antibiotics this often can really do things to a person's body. I'm totally serious, I would, in your circumstance, without one iota of a doubt, take her to the ER.

did you check on the side affects of the medication she is taking? You should probably let the dr know what is going on just in case. Keep us updated Laura!
Praying for a speedy recovery!!!!

Hi Wendy,

I don't think it is the meds, as she threw up 1x before even starting her meds.

I don't think it is the steroids, only b/c she has taken these several times.

(((Laura))) My DH is home today, because he's on-call tonight. He's a doctor. I just read him your post (I hope you don't mind). He says kids often throw up with strep throat, especially during the on-set of the infection. But he thought if she's been on the antibiotics since Tuesday, he'd be surprised she is still vomiting. He said Omnicef (which he calls Cefdineer--sp??--I guess another name for the same drug) can cause gastrointestinal upset, but that's very rare. He said usually it's in the form of diarrhea and not vomiting, and you can try giving her some buttermilk (now where you buy that, I wouldn't have a clue, and he doesn't know either!!). He said she also just might have a stomach virus on top of the strep, as that's going around. But he thinks you should definitely call your doctor and let him or her know what's up, so if anything, they can at least change her antibiotic to something she tolerates better. . . And my DH says it sounds like you're taking excellent care of her :)

I feel for you. I have a sick kid here too. It's the pits!! Please let us know what the doctor says. I am so sorry you've been going through this. And right before her surgery, too. My thoughts and prayers are with you guys for a speedy recovery and smooth sailing!

Hugs,

Sofia
