I'm doing a major decluttering around here now that the older kids are in school.

I also have that problem about getting rid of gifts. When I was a kid we had TONS of stuffed animals and my mom hung them on a pole. Sounds weird, I know. She took a big dowel rod, at least an inch diameter, and almost as tall as the ceiling, and a bunch of those screw-in hooks. She put the hooks on the dowel rod, top to bottom, used a bigger hook and eye to hang it from the ceiling (be sure to find a stud!) and it was the hanging tower of stuffed animals. I'm thinking the ones that didn't have a loop or tag to hang from, she tied a ribbon around their neck or something. I had several that I played with all the time, but she would trade them off the pole for me if I wanted to switch. It seemed like a pretty good way to store them until I lost interest and she was finally able to put them in the garage sale pile.

Manda :)

Ewwww! Love the trading deal for the pillow pets... And yeah, why am I keeping stuffed animals for JT when he doesn't like them, better than the fight to get rid of them with the older ones. I think I keep them because they tend to be gifts and I still struggle with the fact just because it was a gift we don't have to keep it. I may have to try the tub deal with DS#2... DS#1 has a net that he keeps most of them in. Right now I don't even want to open their doors...

If they want pillow pets, and you want to pare down the animals, I would tell them that they need to choose X amount of animals to give to someone who doesn't have animals to love, and they'll get a pillow pet in exchange.

At least your FIL gets them from the flea market.

DS2 is a little bit little yet, but DS1 LOVES his stuffies.

I wish I had done that... FIL gets them nasty old ones from flea markets and I'm the bad guy for getting rid of them. They all want pillow pets... I want a big trash bag to clear most of them out.

Thankfully, my kids aren't really into stuffed animals. I think it's mostly because as soon as someone would gift us one, I would get rid of it. They have a few, but that's it. Ian has a penguin and a dog. Lucy has a frog. They both have a pillow pet, too.
