Kim, I hope the appointment goes well. I think you're doing the right thing by taking him. If it was Ian, I don't think one good week would negate the other bad behavior so I'd move forward with the appointment. I'd let him know that he's not a bad kid, but he needs help in directing his anger/frustration in a healthy way that doesn't involve hurting others. Let us know how it goes! (((hugs)))

Good for you for going through with seeing the therapist! As a former teacher, I can say that you are in a minority for taking such an initiative to help your child. Many parents expect the school to handle such problems. I'm also relieved to hear that she ruled out ADHD. I believe it is very over-diagnosed. So many parents, teachers and drs would rather call it that and throw some medication at the kid than actually make a plan to help the child learn to behave. It is good news that he can choose to control his impulses when he wants to. What a lucky kid to have parents who are so concerned!
