Today Aston had an appt with a pedi opthomologist for his blocked tear ducts and well he said that the block ducts (both eyes) will probably have to do surgery in a month. But that is not the bad news, when he looked in his eyes he said "uh oh" and he checked both of them with all the lights and gadgets they use and told us that Aston is VERY farsighted. He will need glasses as soon as he is able to wear them if not he will go cross-eyed. WHAAAAAAA!!! I am so mad at my dh right now cause Aston is taking after him. My dh is blind as a bat..lol. This is what I get for always making fun of my dh. I guess one of our kids were bound to get his vision. I feel so bad for my little man cause he has such beautiful big eyes and long eyelashes, now I feel the glasses will be covering them up. WHAAAAAA WHAAAAA!!

Olivia,

that sucks! My nephew had the tear duct operation as well, and it is a fairly simple proceedure (as if that helps lol)

As far as the glasses go, he'll still be a sweetie pie!!! In a couple years, maybe he can have the laser type thing done and have perfect 20/20 vision! I had glasses when I was a young kid too. By the time he goes to school, he will NOT be the only one there with them, trust me!

Awwww, Olivia. I'm so sorry to hear that. Poor Aston. I've heard of the surgery for the blocked tear ducts. I hope that all goes well. Sorry to hear about the glasses for the little guy. I think little tiny kids look ADORABLE in glasses. My dd, Molly, who is 5 just had her eyes checked about 6 mos. ago and the dr. said that she may have glasses in her future, as well. I have excellent vision, at the age of 36 my eyes are still perfect. My dh is the one with glasses, so I'm sure that is why Molly would end up with them. She too, has big blue eyes and I would hate to cover them with glasses.

Big hugs to you and keep us posted.

Poor thing. I am glad they were able to catch it soon. Better now then later.
I am sure the glasses will make his eyes even more pretty then they are.
Can he not wear contacts? I know at this age probably not, but when he gets older?

I guess I am dense but I fail to see why this is such "bad" news. Thankfully, your son's eye problem can be corrected with glasses. My son inherited my bad farsightedness and wears glasses. No, I didn't wish it on him of course, but when you have bad eyes, you take the chance of passing it on. My son looks so CUTE with his little glasses. My only gripe is how expensive they are.

Think of it this way. He will be able to see and his eye sight is fixable. He COULD have been born without eyes you know. Gotta be thankful for what you have. And hey, when he is much older, he can get contacts.

I am sorry this has happened Olivia. I know that anything that could make our kids uncomfortable is hurtful to us as mother's. I hope the surgery goes perfect and that your little man gets everything straightened out.

((Hugs)) to you!

You know what, I think when you get any type of irregular news about you child it is always bad news at the time. yes, there are worse problems, but at that time you are freakin out! So, I feel for you right now. Any surgery is scary and a risk, so of course you're concerned. Prayers to your little Aston and YOU!

Thank you ladies for your support. I feel a little better about the whole situation today. I was surprised that they were able to tell this early in age, but also very glad that they did before anything worse happens with his vision. My poor dh feels so bad cause he did not want none of our kids to inherit his vision. All his life he has been wearing glasses and up till now VERY THICK lenses. He has big beautiful eyes just like Aston and with his thick lenses (he use to wear) it made his eyes even more huge. Kids would make fun of him so that is why dh did not want our kids to go through this. DH can wear contact lenses but they are very expensive (cause of his strength) and we just can not afford them. And the other bad thing is his strength is so bad that he does not qualify for the lasik surgery. He already looked into that. So if Aston is going to be the same way then I am sure he would not be able to have this surgery done also. The doctor checked my dh's glasses while we were there (to get his strength measurements) and said that Aston is right there with him. So that is why I am upset about the whole thing cause my baby can not see good right now. Thanks again for your support. I will keep you posted about his tear duct surgery.
