Research (various websites and word of mouth) suggests that on average 19-24 month olds speak about 50-75 words. My first born is 20 month old boy who speaks about 10. Some of my friends seem to be of the opinion that firstborns usually speak a bit late. Some of them assure me that boys speak later than girls. Should I be worried? Although my son is physically ahead of his age, people often mistake him for around 3 and over, he understands simple instructions and constantly babble. if it werent for these expert opinions, i wouldn't give it another thought.
Also take the poll that I have started. Thanks for your input.

He just started saying some words, other then mama and dada.
He can now say Ball, Cat, Dog, Sky, Eye, bye and hi.
He just started though.
I read somewhere to speak slowley and repeat the same thing over and over to them. Also, when you do something or give him something, tell him what it is and let him see you say it.
I say it works, cause that is what I did and now he is starting to talk more.
I will try and find that article for you.

It is also nice to see that your child is not behind in speaking and that there are other kids in the same position.
I am sure your child will be speaking in no time.
