Trying to find a babysitter

Hi everyone, I'm new to ivillage, but I have a problem that I can't seem to solve and need some help. I live in a small town in MI and have two children under 3years and I'm a SAHM. We moved here about a year ago to be closer to hubby's work, so we are new to the community, and I can't find a babysitter. All of our family is more than an hour away, so they are not a practible option. I've tried calling daycare places, family service agencies, the community education for babysitting certification, talked to parents in our neighborhood, even tried calling the local highschool to post an ad for the job. All I seem to get is "we don't give referrals" or "we don't give out that information" or "the lawyers won't let us advertise babysitting jobs". The parents in our area either use their family or the babysitter they do use is already busy. I am completely frustrated by all of the "legal" walls that I keep running into. Does anyone know of a way to find a babysitter without placing an ad in the paper. I cringe at the thought of having to do that.

Thanks for any suggestions!!!!

I live in Texas, near Houston. On the Ivillage Houston board I have seen posts looking for babysitters. Maybe you could post on the MI board.

Good luck, hope this can help!

Why not put an ad up in your local library? Lots of high school, college kids, and even other moms would see it. I know that where I live, all of the supermarkets have ads for babysitting and things like that in the entry ways. Good luck.

We do Babysitting trades with our good friends once a month and I also have a 16 yr old across the street that I use. Here are some ideas...Church is my best idea. Do you attend a church?...Check into it with their youth leaders. You can leave your information for someone to call you if they don't want to give your theirs.

Good luck...I love having good babysitters! Like you, our family is 3 to 5 hours away! The couple we do babysitting trades with also does not have family in the area so it works out well!

Have you tried putting a ad in the paper?
Try findind a site that offers free ads on the internet for your area?
I really dont have much more suggestions, but I do wish you luck in finding one.
