IT RAINED ALL DAY!! I'm serious. It was nice until we got to the park. Then, it started to just drip. No big deal. We went in the nature center for about 1/2 hr., then came out to hike thru the sand dunes, and then we would hike right to the play area/shelter for lunch. 1/2 way thru the hike - the clouds opened up and dumped buckets upon buckets of rain on all of us. I was with the 1st graders. These kids were troopers. We made it to the shelter, helped the kids dry off briefly, then ate lunch. As we ate lunch, it stopped raining, so the 6th graders sat out on picnic tables outside the shelter. Within minutes - DOWNPOUR!! They debated leaving, but within 20 mins. it stopped and seemed nice. So we went to the beach (only a short walk away) and built sand castles on Lake Michigan. Nice and very fun - UNTIL THE BIG BLACK CLOUD CAME OVERHEAD!!! I'm serious - we hurried to a shelter, and got there just in time for it to DOWNPOUR AGAIN!! 20 mins or so later, it stopped enough for us to load buses. Sigh - then I got to ride home for 2 hours on a packed school but with soaking wet kids. The 3 boys behind me spent an entire hour playing rock/paper/scissors - endlessly, hysterically, loudly.....I am SO done right now.
Anyhow, that was my day.
Wendy
