My 14 month old son is in the 5th percentile for his weight and 50th percentile for his height. My pediatrician keeps wanting me to come in every month to check his weight and be sure that he hasn't dropped off the "chart". Developmentally he is totally fine, hits all his milestones etc, I'm just stressed out that I'm doing something wrong. He eats, but he's picky, one day he likes something the next he wants nothing to do with it....anyone have any advice?

Did your ped. recommend the supplement shakes they have for kiddos now? Check with the ped, and try it out if they o.k. it. I would also just try and keep a variety of healthy foods available to your little one. Does he like peanut butter? That would help his weight gain, and is also considered a "meat" substitute if I remember correctly. Cheese? Yogurt? How about try a blended milk shake with some yogurt, fruit, etc. That would be a good way to get something "good" into him, that he may like as well. Remember, making food fun can be key at that age. Get him into "helping" you, if you can. He may prove to have more interest in his food if he helped make it himself. Yes, he's young, but he can still give a hand! Being picky is the age I think. My 24+ month daughter changes from day to day what she likes. I just keep offering things to her, though, and so far she's done great. Slice of bread with peanut butter, apples, raisins, granola bars. Also, if there is a fruit he especially likes, try blending/food processing it up with another type of fruit and make popsicles for him. I would try to keep away from stocking junk food, too. You don't want to go to the other extreme and have him gain weight that isn't healthy. I sympathize with you about the finicky eating. Our 8MDD is extremely picky, dissects her food at mealtimes, and is generally hard to feed, so I know how frustrating it can be. Good luck!

i am new but I thought that I would put my 2 cents in.. Becca my 2 1/2 year old is only 22 lbs. and 34 inches high I am not sure where that puts her on the scales but I do know that she is very small (but bright) for her age.. Her ped. say that it is just fine she is happy and healthy and not to worrie.. I am small though she said that may play a role in it.. are there small people in your family? he could just be taking after them.. It doesn't haave to be mom or dad he could take afte grandma or grandpa.. for ex.. My twin is 104 lbs and 5'6" she has a 2 years old that were's a 4T he is a big kid. I am 5'1" and 115 prepregancy and I have a 2 1/2 year old that can still where 18 months. I hope this helps you feel better. You are not doing anything wrong. About his eating well mine does the same.. The ped told me this to She will eat when she is hurgany if I force her to eat she may see eating as a bad thing.. Good luck..

Is your doctor just cautious or worried? Does your child look "sick" or just fine?

If you are worried, take him to another doctor and get that advice. Personally, as long as he is eating and not loosing weight and hitting all the milestones, I would not worry about it.
