I haven't see SIL in a while so I hadn't got to talking to her about niece's speech.

Not exactly, we just live in a rural area so the district is really small. There is maybe 100 kids in each grade level for the whole town and surrounding area.

So your district would be more like our catchment, then.

yep... I don't think you can choose to go to a different school in the same district... but we don't have more than 1 school for each level so I've never looked into that.

Ah -- so that would be out-of-district for us.

School of choice is where you send your kids to a school district that you don't live in. It gives parents options when they live in an area with a not so good school district. The schools can limit how many kids they take through school of choice so it is a win-win especially for the better districts with all the funding cuts right now since the schools get the extra funding for the school of choice kids.

I'm glad to hear both that your niece's speech is starting to improve -- any improvement is better than none! -- and that your SIL wants to do something about it.

Oh, good! I'm glad she's at least aware that there's an issue. I know some parents who seem to be in denial (or maybe don't realize there's a problem). I hope she's able to get this therapist to help her. If this therapist can't work with your niece, maybe she can recommend someone who does work within their school district.
