I think that if people were looking at you it was out of sympathy. We've either all been there or know that it is coming any day now--as is the case with me.
Like Ava. I know she is not bad but she does have meltdowns at home. I am waiting for the day she has one in public half hoping it never comes, half hoping i am ready when it does.
Oh boy, I know how you feel!
Noah is starting to throw fits too and it is driving me crazy. We were at Walmart the other day and we were decided to buy him a big semi-truck full of cars that we thought he would really love playing with. After that got into the cart he threw a huge fit that we couldn't take it out of the box, that it was too big to put in his lap, etc. and pretty much screamed and cried the whole way out of the store. We cut our shopping time because of that and left. I completely understand all of the emotions you said you felt. Normally Noah is such a good kid and I can keep him occupied and happy when we go shopping but after that I was like, "this is not my child! My child does not act like that!"
So, I'm no expert. All I could really do is ignore him in hopes that he would realize it didn't get the reaction he wanted. I tried talking to him very calmly and avoiding looking at the people around me.LOL I'm sure you did the same. What can we do? They're getting to that age where they are starting to realize what they really want and figuring out a way to get it, one way or another. Does Emily bang her head against things when she doesn't get her way? Noah is doing this. I swear he's going to crack his head open. He'll hit his head on anything when I tell him no. The washer, the wall, the floor, the table... then he starts crying more thinking it will get me to give him what he wants. I'll tell you, when he starts doing that in public - that's embarassing. I know it is a trantrum but I feel like people are looking at me wondering what brain disfunction my son has. :)
*HUGS* I have no advice. I'm sorry. I just hope this phases passes fast for all of us in it.

Oh honey! *hugs*
Tantrums are gonna happen, period. Maybe only once in
Okay, moving on from the brain dysfunction comment :( .....
You are such a good mommy, and Emily is a good baby!
First, you're not the worst mom in the world. It happens to all of us.
Second, we remove the child from public. It may inconvenience us (and has many times) but it's the way to make them realize that they are not in control of the situation. You are.
Good luck. Just know you're in good company!

Thank you all so much for your hugs and words of encouragement.
I know I'm a little late responding to this but just thought I'd tell you that we all have those days.
The only thing you can really do to prevent them
