Totally BTDT!!!!!!! With BOTH my kids. My daughter does this currently, whenever she feels like it, and she's 23 mos old. My son never really did it when he was younger but at the age of 3, he started, and continues to at the age of almost 5! Basically, I never go anywhere without a stroller, and when they melt down like that, I pick them up and put them in the stroller, and belt them in. Then we leave. I don't talk to them, mostly because I'm embarrassed, angry, feel like the worst mom, etc... I just smile and look sympathetic to their plight.
Lots of people have told me to figure out the triggers to their melt downs, but again, I must not be a very good mom, because I just can't seem to figure out what their triggers are, aside from boredom, hunger, and tiredness. I imagine, your child probably got bored and tired of waiting in line, but ultimately, when is there not a line to see the Easter Bunny??
Just know that EVERY parent has dealt with this, and will continue to deal with it.
