We made it home alive...

What a week we had. I am soooooo glad to be home in one piece.

About 2 hrs into the drive, our tire blew up. Its not fun cruising down the highway going 120km, and having a tire blow into millions of pieces. Some idiot who was tailgating us ended up hitting the small trailer we were towing, and that pushed it into a deep ditch that was on the passenger side of the highway. Thankfully, dh had pretty good control over the vehicle before the idiot hit us, and he was able to stop the truck from flipping on its side in the ditch. After we came to a stop, and realized we were ok, the moron took off, and left us there!

Anyways, I called my sister (who was ahead of us) to turn around and come back to help dh with the truck. The trailer was screwed, the back bumper on the truck was ripped off, the wheel well in the truck is all dented and twisted. We all stood there for an hour or so, trying to get the shredded traction from the tire pryed off the axle part, so they could change the tire. Amazingly, a short time later, my dad of all people pulled up to help us out lol. He has been out of town working for weeks, and I havent seen him in quite a while. He was driving by and thought he saw my dh! He put the trailer in the back of his work trailer and took that for us. We got the tire changed (thankfully, dh had a full tire for backup, not one of those wimpy point A-B tires)

Anyway, we got on the road eventually, and continued on the 7 hour drive. Once we got to the cabin we had a great time. It took me a few days to stop the shaking, and the flashbacks, but I got over it eventually!

All in all, it was an interesting trip...not one I want to redo anytime soon lol. Now we have to deal with the insurance company to get the truck fixed, but thats a whole other story!

Lesley I know how you feel. When we were traveling to Washington State, we had an accident like that. We were going 70 and the car in front of us just stopped dead. DH hit the brakes and went into the breakdown lane that caused us to go into the field off road. Thank God DH was able to keep it from rolling over. We got back up onto the breakdown lane. I saw the car stop but when we got back up on the road the car took off. We were packed to the gills of stuff. Hannah's bike was on the back so it put a HUGE dent in the back door and it ripped off the bumper. The kids cried for about 30 minutes and Hannah still gets scared if you swerve too much. Thank God no one was hurt. I hope you get lots of money for the damage that car did. Huge Hugs!!!

She was in the back seat. She was sleeping when it happened, but with all the skidding, and slidding everywhere, she woke up, and was a little dazed. She didnt cry, but she was upset at being woken up. Once we came to a stop, dh jumped out and grabbed the car seat, and dragged it (with her in it) through the ditch, and across to a field area way off the side of the highway. He was afraid of someone else hitting us while we were stopped on the side of the highway. Once my sister and bil and neice showed up to help, the kids ran around in the field to entertain themselves lol.
